Job DescriptionThis role will be working within the R&D process team on new developments in water purification technologies and products on the laboratory scale. These will be associated with a wide range of process technologies and new product projects.
The work will primarily involve designing, building and operating laboratory-scale test rigs featuring new technologies, prototypes and finished products. This requires associated chemical/microbiological analytical test work and reporting on results, as part of the Research and Development team. Calibration of instruments and auditing/maintaining records are also important tasks. Analytical skills in chemistry, microbiology and chemical engineering will be utilised.
Please Note - applicants who are asked for interview will be required to demonstrate their knowledge and practical skills via a series of aptitude tasks. The outcomes of these will have a major bearing on our choice of successful candidate.
1. Operation of test equipment associated with new products and processes
To ensure pilot rig and finished product testwork and associated tasks are carried out satisfactorily and completed to meet the technical objectives set within the agreed time scales.
Involvement in the process design and testing of new productsCollaborating in setting design/objectives of testwork, plus definition of time-scales
Safe, logical/careful & thoughtful completion of practical work, data logging/processing.
Accurate recording of experimental results, report writing and outcome presentation.
Organising and monitoring test programmes for new products/technologies.

Test reports are completed and written up promptly, in line with departmental KPIs.
2. Project Support
Acquire a detailed familiarity with the technologies used in water purification and with the ELGA LabWater range of products. Provide support to other team members, using scientific skills and calibration / quality assurance auditing capabilities.3. Analysis Support
To participate in ensuring that an efficient analytical service is provided by the department. This will require:
Maintaining a good working knowledge of the appropriate techniques.
Ensuring relevant Work Instructions are kept updated and work is carried out to them.
Ensuring equipment is in full working order and calibrated, the laboratory is kept clean, tidy and safe, in accordance with regulatory standards.
4. Laboratory Visibility
The laboratory is maintained such that it provides visitors with a positive reinforcement of our commitment to high quality R&D. A professional approach and GLP-compatible behaviour is a mandatory part of this role.

Working in the R&D Department, information security and confidentiality are essential.
A willingness to embrace the precepts of chemistry, microbiology and chemical engineering in order to integrate well in our multidisciplinary team.
A high level of work independence is required. After an initial period of training on water purification technologies and laboratory procedures, the candidate will be expected to take ownership of some projects and related testwork.
Must haves….
A degree or equivalent in chemical engineering, chemistry or other STEM subject.
Experience of working in a laboratory environment with a team of scientists/engineers.
Practical knowledge of lab techniques, analytical chemistry and/or microbiology.
Strength in mathematics, with the ability to manipulate & analyse sets of numerical data is essential.
Strong communication skills, both verbal & written, with the confidence to document and present, clearly & concisely, test results, conclusions and project outcomes.
A natural problem solver, using your own initiative to find solutions, as part of a team.
Willingness and the ability to explore new ideas and grow own knowledge base.
Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks.
Good practical skills and a hands on approach is essential.
An ability to work independently, after instruction, to achieve set goals and timescales.
Sound knowledge of Google and Microsoft Applications.
Having a practical hobby which can be illustrated at interview will be a major advantage.

Your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

Managing subcontractors on site.

Ensure the appropriate levels of resources are engaged at site and develop a balanced and cohesive team.
Establish priorities and resolve conflict within the site team.
Induct all staff and subcontractors on site as required.
Manage site costs including assisting Project Manager/QS in preparing monthly CVR and forecasts.
Issue notice to subcontractor to commence work and receive check supply only goods and complete GRN’s.
Ensure that Record Vouchers/Technical Query sheets are prepared, signed and forwarded to the QS.
Ensure site is properly established and maintained, ensuring safe working at all times on site.
Issue permits to work by authorised persons.
Nomination, in writing, of appointed/responsible persons to comply with identified hazards and H&S legislation.
Provide adequate welfare and first aid facilities.
Conduct regular audits with clients and subcontractors to review and discuss H&S matters.
Ensure project is executed in accordance with the Quality, Environmental and H&S plan.
Implement project specific Quality, Environmental and H&S plans. Regularly review and update the project plans.
Ensure close out of site in accordance with the Company Procedures.

You will have experience of working with low levels of supervision in a high-pressure production environment and have a strong knowledge of health and safety regulations, proactive maintenance strategies and condition monitoring.
Candidates will also need to be able to carry out work at height and in confined spaces as well as working closely with electrical technicans providing support as required, driving their "1 team" ethos.
