Roles & Responsibilities

  • Maintaining and servicing controls and instrumentation across the site (flow meters, temperature gauges etc.)

Introduction

We are currently seeking a qualified Site Chemist to work with an industry leader in Hazardous Waste Management Services, focussing on the disposal and collection of both hazardous and non-hazardous waste. Working as their Transfer Station Site Chemist, you will be responsible for supporting the daily operations across the waste facility ensuring efficient and effective waste acceptance, sampling and testing for a compliant and safe process at all times.

 

The Role

Working as their Transfer Station Site Chemist, you will be responsible for:
  • Assist with the hands-on operation of the hazardous waste transfer station, ensuring materials coming onto and off site are consistently safe and compliant to site permits and environmental regulations.
  • Assist with compiling lists of wastes to be transferred off site to third party disposal points. Liaising with other staff to ensure correct routing of wastes
  • Assist with non- conformance procedures and sample processing within the site for incoming waste streams.
  • Utilise appropriate systems to manage non- compliances.
  • Assist with the daily/weekly plan for the operational areas and laboratory, adapt to the unplanned and unexpected to deliver targets, KPI’s and other requirements.

  • Undertake area administration activity including Chemist Check sheets, process sheets, stock sheets, production records, etc.

This is a very hands-on operational role, working within an industrial transfer station. This role requires working outdoors and will suit someone with a flexible attitude to work.

 

The Candidate

To be considered for this position, candidates must have an appropriate chemistry qualification to degree level as well as experience handling a diverse range of chemical compounds including understanding of inter-reactions.

 

Candidates should have experience working in a site-based chemist role or working within an industrial laboratory environment with a good understanding of the Waste Management/ Hazardous Waste industry.

 

This role will require you to work in a hands-on operational capacity outdoors in all weather conditions.

Main Duties

The Opportunity  EPR-E is a joint venture between EDF and Framatome, an EPCC established in 2018 in charge of the design (basic design) and the realization (studies, procurement, erection, testing and commissioning) of nuclear islands for new projects in France and worldwide. In particular, EPR-E is responsible for the design and construction of the nuclear island for the Hinkley Point C (HPC) project and prepare the design replication and engineering activities for the Sizewell C (SZC) Project.   • Involved in the early development stage of new product development, working closely with the engineering team to help assess new product suitability for mass production. This will also include improvements to existing product portfolios.

  • Manage mechanical design for water processing plants, ensuring project deliverables are met.
  • Collaborate with clients, internal engineers, and CAD designers to integrate mechanical elements into plant designs.
  • Develop equipment specifications and generate mechanical layouts (e.g., piping and equipment).
  • Working with CAD designer and other design engineers to create and evolve P+ID, General Arrangement and detailed drawings to define the plant design.
  • Maintain schedules and contribute to HAZOP processes.
  • Communicate with site and commissioning managers.
  • Evaluate quotations for technical compliance and participate in design risk assessments.
    Professional and personal qualifications We are looking for someone with the following:  
  • Strong communication and good interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated to deliver with 7+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in the municipal or industrial wastewater sectors.
  • Formal education in Mechanical Engineering (e.g., Apprenticeship, HNC/HND, or Degree).
  • Experience and knowledge of equipment used in the water treatment industry and steel fabrication techniques.
  • Proficiency in CAD (e.g., Autodesk) and software like Excel and Word.
  • Ability to perform mechanical calculations (e.g., hydraulic and FEA).
  • Experience interpreting PFDs and P&IDs.
  • Full Driving License.
