Astute’s Power team partnering with a Principal Contractor in the Energy from Waste sector to recruit a Senior Authorised Person / Log-out Tag-Out Coordinator on a 18-month contract for its West Midlands site starting in January 2025. The SAP role comes with a day rate of £600.00.             Key skills  
  • Implement procedures to ensure Safety from the System and from the test equipment as dictated by the test programme and consulting, as necessary, with Control Persons of other Systems to agree any actions which may be required to maintain Safety from the System.
  • Correctly implementing specified procedures for releasing Plant and Apparatus for work or testing and for ensuring that all safety precautions which achieve Safety from the System are in place.
  • Obtain the agreement of the Control Person to the release of Plant and Apparatus.
  • Confirm through the Control Person that safety precautions at remote locations are complete.
  • Check with the Control Person to confirm that the safety precautions which have been taken are suitable and sufficient for the work or testing to be done.
  • Instruct Authorised Persons to carry out the necessary operations to establish safety precautions which achieve Safety from the System.
  • Decide whether the work to be done under a Permit for Work or Limited Work Certificate.
  • Issue the Safety Document together with, any associated documents and Keys. Ensure they are placed in safe custody.
  • Cancel or suspend Safety Documentation as required.
  • Ensure the details stipulated in the Safety Documentation is correctly applied.
  • Inform the Control Person of the completion of work or testing, details of any restrictions on returning the Plant and/or Apparatus to service, and, in the case of a Sanction for Test, any changes to the condition of the System concerned.
  • For work on or testing of L.V. Apparatus, determining whether this is to be carried out in accordance with approved procedures by a Competent Person, or under a Safety Document.

They are looking to recruit a Site Quality Manager on a 12-month minimum contract for its site in Southeast of England.       The Site Quality Manager role comes with a day rate of £600.      Key skills required for the Site Quality Manager role   
  • Overall Site Quality Control (QC) lead & manager of the Site Quality team, reporting directly to the Project Site Manager (PSM), with functional reporting to the Project Quality Manager (PQM)
  • Demonstrates leadership and commitment to Health, Safety, Environment (HSE) & enforces construction site HSE requirements, and is required to support the PSIM in implementation of the site HSE policies as needed
  • Ensures that relevant quality certification necessary for site works are available and are valid and ensure that approved testing equipment is calibrated and properly used
  • Participates in the review and approval of assembly test plans and other quality-related documents (e.g. manufacturer approvals, process skills, personnel qualifications, inspection instructions) before installation. Responsible for organising, managing and conducting the intermediate and final inspections at construction site (IIS, FIS, MEC/TOP), according to the approved QC plan
  • Ensures that the quality requirements as per Inspection & Test Plan are fulfilled by the contractor, with progress and deviations recorded in the QC tool (PIRS web, LMS or ALP) and communicated to the respective contractor for action and through regular site walkdowns, identifies potential sources of deviation to the contractual requirement and records them in the QC tool
  • Must hold either EfW and Boiler experience or Boiler/ Power Plant experience

  • Ensure that all relevant HSEQ requirements are incorporated into area of responsibility and that, in consultation with site management, HSE and commissioning team, HSE hazards are eliminated or mitigated to the extent practicable
  • Prepare and issue permits to Work and system isolations for works within the shift
  • Ensure that works within area of responsibility are executed in accordance with the contract and conform with project time requirements
  • Independently operate, monitor, and maintain systems according to the scope of responsibility, in the control room and on site

  • Champion safety standards across teams and ensure full compliance with project HSEQ requirements
  • Deliver complete DCS scope including PCS7, S7-1500 PLCs, and TIA Portal on large-scale EfW plants
  • Independently operate critical systems and supervise shift personnel during commissioning phases
  • Execute hands-on training for client personnel and optimise processes with commissioning teams
  • Interface with stakeholders, maintain shift logs, and ensure works meet contract specifications

Astute’s Power team is looking to recruit a HSE Manager on a pipework installation project in Hertfordshire on a 9-12 month contact basis for a start in November.     Key skills required for the HSE Manager:    
  • Translating site or contract-specific activities into effective Job Safety Analyses, or approved equivalent (e.g. Risk Assessment and Method Statements (RAMS)), and Safety Task Assignments that ensure HSE protection requirements are met.
  • Being present at the Worksite when Contractor has employees (including sub and lower-tier employees) onsite work.
  • Coordinating operations with other contractors as to not increase hazards or hazardous situations.
  • Monitoring, identifying, assessing, and managing HSE hazards associated with the Work to support the consistent application of safe work methods.
  • Ensuring compliance with all applicable statutory acts, regulations, and codes of practice.
  • Ensuring that required training is conducted and documented for all personnel for whom Contractor is responsible.
  • Providing and ensuring that all personnel are supplied with and trained in the correct use, fitting, and maintenance of personal protective equipment.
  • Conducting HSE assessments of Work being performed in alignment with Leading Indicator requirements.
  • Conducting weekly safety meetings with employees.
  • Submitting a weekly report documenting HSE activities.
  • Must hold a NEBOSH
  • Experience on piping or pipework scope of works will be highly beneficial
  • Must be prepared to be on site majority of the time.
