Astute’s Power team is partnering with an EPC Contractor to recruit a Scaffold / Temporary Works Coordinator on a long-term contract for its West Midlands site. The Scaffold Temp Work Coordinator role comes with competitive day rate.                   Key skills  
  • Demonstrate leadership and commitment to Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW). Actively encourages and lead contractor teams to implement and comply with project HSW requirements.
    • Ensures that all relevant HSW requirements are incorporated into area of responsibility and that, in consultation with site management and HSW team, HSW hazards are eliminated or mitigated to the extent practicable
    • Ensures that risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) are reviewed with regards to HSW requirements, and that work is carried out in accordance with the RAMS.
    • Responsible for the safety and HSW performance of all personnel under their control, and for stopping work where this might be compromised.
    • Ensure works within area of responsibility are executed in accordance with the contract and conform with project time and budget requirements.
    • Act as the principal contact in the co-ordination of all scaffolding equipment on site.
    • Chair co-ordination meetings between the various contractors on site to ensure the minimum hindrance to the construction work.
    • Ensure all scaffolding operations are planned, organised, and undertaken by competent persons.
    • Ensure that the scaffolding equipment is positioned and installed so, as to minimise any risks e. g. from the load falling or striking people.
    • Ensure that scaffolding equipment is suitable for the proposed use and is marked with any appropriate information to be taken its safe use into account.
    • Ensure that scaffolding equipment and scaffolding accessories are subject to a periodic thorough examination to confirm they are fit for purpose.
    • Design and pre-plan the scaffold including weight limitations, scaffold type, fall protection, tie-offs, supports, etc.
    • Must hold Mechanical TW (Temporary Works) experience
  • Must hold NAECI experience.
  • Hold a CISRS card.
  • Hold SSSTS or equivalent.
  • Hold experience in large construction projects.

  •  Produce & Review Competency matrix: Where applicable undertake suitable pre-qualification exercise and advise Project Engineering Manager in respect of project competency status. • Review sub-contractor competency: Develop & review documentation relating to sub-contract design organisations capability, knowledge, skills and experience and make recommendations on CDM compliance. • Keep updated the project design risk register: The register will be the primary tool to manage CDM compliance throughout the project duration and will, once developed form a monthly deliverable from all designers. • Develop Designer CDM gateway review process: Undertake assessments arising from all design stakeholders and manage/coordinate H&S information as applicable. Designer residual risk will feed into the Project Risk Register. • H&S Files: Develop and manage the project H&S file strategy. Ensure the timely development of any project specific template and carry out regular reviews of the DRM to ensure the health and safety file is compiled as the project progresses. • Contractor Mobilisation: Feed PCI into the mobilisation process and collaborate with Contractors (including PC’s) in the development of design risk information and constructability reviews. • Training: Produce and deliver project specific CDM, or other training where a need is identified, including to offshore (non-UK) design organisations. • Collaborative Working: Ensure that all parties work together to common goals to reduce risk in design and constructability. Applicant must be able to demonstrate such abilities. • Remain available: To advise on CDM related issues such as design change, material (COSHH) issues and arising from unforeseeable events.
  • Must hold CDM Management experience ideally with a Principal Designer background.

The Remeasurement Site Quantity Surveyor role comes with a flexible day rate.             Key skills  
  • Responsible for the measurement and valuation of selected subcontract packages
  • Measures and evaluates changes from revised drawings and site inspection at regular intervals in accordance with the contractual measurement rules and rates and standard methods of measurement.
  • Develop and issue sound, accurate cost reports, accurately reflecting the financial position of each package and forecast commercial status and cash flow, including interface with CAPRI and SAP. Identify trends and implement the requisite actions. Identify variances and explain the cause and potential effect and where necessary implement mitigation measures to reduce the impact.
  • Participate in or run regular technical and commercial site meetings, issue minutes of meeting.
  • Document commercial aspects of any change / deviation /claim in PIRS working collaboratively with the technical work package holder, project procurement, scheduling, site management.  Early recognition and maximisation of opportunities . Identify commercial risks and implement mitigation measures in consultation with the work package holders.
  • Responsible for the claim management for designated subcontract packages, establish a strategy of dealing with claims and diligently collate all the necessary supporting documentation, assesses counter- claim potential in close coordination with the relevant work package holder and other staff.
  • Leads subcontract commercial negotiations and account meetings, including preparation of subcontract final accounts (remeasured as required).
  • Carry out procurement of minor works / finishing works packages with support and input from head office personnel
  • Provide return of experience per contract package through ongoing feedback to head office, and final account close out reports including lessons learnt.
  • Must have remeasurement experience measuring quantities of work undertaken.

  • Reporting to the Subcontracts & Commercial Managers you will:
  • Be aware of the subcontract’s status and scope and report to Project Team.
  • Develop and maintain Correspondence Log with the Subcontractors and inform of any changes on Cost of Time from/to sub-contractors that may become a Client Change Order.
  • Suggest corrective actions from/to sub-contractors that would be effective on time and cost.
  • Ensure all BOQ are updated in line with the last IFC drawings received.
  • Inform both Project Team and Subcontractors about FEWO (Field Extra Work) procedure.
  • Inform to Subcontractors about approval or contractual reasons for rejection and/or modification of any submitted FEWO.
  • Develop and maintain the FEWO Log for Subcontractors under your control.
  • Evaluate and study under contractual basis, all the Compensation Event (CE) submitted by the Subcontractors; this activity will be coordinated with the Construction team.
  • Inform to the Subcontractor, about the approval or the contractual reasons for the rejection and/or modification of any CE submitted.
  • Develop and maintain the CE Log for the subcontracts under his/her control.
  • Inform to the Project team about the Bach-charges (BC) procedure.
  • Prepare the BC Notices to the Subcontractors and ensure the contra-charges are applied.
  • Inform to the Project team and Subcontractors about the Contradictory Price (CP) procedure.
  • Evaluate and study under the contractual basis, all CP submitted by the Subcontractor.
  • Develop and maintain the CP Log for the subcontracts under your control.
  • Inform to the Subcontractor, about the approval or the contractual reasons for the rejection and/or modification of any PA submitted.
  • Issue of the Payment Certificates (PC) to the Subcontractors.
Professional qualifications: We are looking for someone with the following:
  • Educated to a degree level or equivalent (BSc Quantity Surveying preferred)
  • Main Contractor experience desired
  • Knowledge of building and construction.
  • To be based at Site (London, UK)
  • Project experience within Energy from Waste, OCGT, CCGT, Power Stations.
