Astute’s Power team is partnering with a leading Mechanical & Electrical Subcontractor within the Energy from Waste sector to recruit an Electrical Engineer on a 6-month contract for its Birmingham site. The Electrical Engineer role comes with a day rate of £400.             Key skills  
  • Assist with the installation of electrical scope which includes Electrical Equipment, CMS (primary & secondary), cable installation, cable terminations, lighting, earthing, lightning protection, instrumentation and controls etc.
  • Review electrical drawings for buildability and proposed installation methodology
  • Liaise closely with the planner to ensure all take-offs are incorporated within the programme and the installed measure is correct to ensure accurate progress is recorded
  • Liaise with the client for solutions to any design issues encountered and formalise through the correct project process
  • Co-ordinate with internal teams, subcontractors and suppliers to ensure a smooth execution of the electrical works scope
  • Assist with the planning, forecasting labour levels etc. to undertake the works
  • Oversee the installation of the electrical equipment to ensure it is safely installed and all testing is undertaken correctly and in line with manufacture recommendations
  • Ensuring all works are being undertaken safely and in accordance with the project H&S requirements
  • Must have worked on large industrial projects

  • Carry out Electrical works on site, this will include working on High Voltage systems.
  • Supervise subcontractors on site, ensure their work is completed to the required standard and in a safe and efficient manner.  
  • Ensure works within area of responsibility are executed in accordance with the contract, and conform with project time and budget requirements
  • Demonstrate leadership regarding HSEQ on site, actively encourages and leads others to comply with project HSEQ requirements
  • Ensure Risk Assessments and Method Statements are reviewed and subsequent works are carried out in accordance to them.
  • Keep the Site Manager informed of activities on site and progress change requests (technical, time and costs).
  • Deliver ‘Lessons Learned’ to benefit future projects
    Professional qualifications: We are looking for someone with the following:
  • An Electrical Engineering qualification such as HNC/HND or Degree
  • SSSTS / SCS or similar valid Safety Contractors Certificate
  • Experience supervising construction of a large industrial plant
  • Knowledge of Pressure Parts, ATEX knowledge and experience on High Voltage (11kV / 33kV) equipment 
  • Relevant HSEQ knowledge relevant to industrial construction sites
    Personal skills: The Electrical Site Supervisor role would suit someone who is:
  • Confident using Microsoft suite

  • Ensure all systems and components are installed and tested to correct standards.
  • Site walks with client and subcontractors to create snagging lists.
  • Oversee sub-contractors to ensure issues are resolved and working on time.
  • Maintain records of all activities and identify and resolve issues during completion phase.
  • Ensure all activities adhere to H&S regulations.
  • Must ideally hold EfW experience, working with or hold an understanding of working for a Principal Contractor.

The Remeasurement Site Quantity Surveyor role comes with a flexible day rate.             Key skills  
  • Responsible for the measurement and valuation of selected subcontract packages
  • Measures and evaluates changes from revised drawings and site inspection at regular intervals in accordance with the contractual measurement rules and rates and standard methods of measurement.
  • Develop and issue sound, accurate cost reports, accurately reflecting the financial position of each package and forecast commercial status and cash flow, including interface with CAPRI and SAP. Identify trends and implement the requisite actions. Identify variances and explain the cause and potential effect and where necessary implement mitigation measures to reduce the impact.
  • Participate in or run regular technical and commercial site meetings, issue minutes of meeting.
  • Document commercial aspects of any change / deviation /claim in PIRS working collaboratively with the technical work package holder, project procurement, scheduling, site management.  Early recognition and maximisation of opportunities . Identify commercial risks and implement mitigation measures in consultation with the work package holders.
  • Responsible for the claim management for designated subcontract packages, establish a strategy of dealing with claims and diligently collate all the necessary supporting documentation, assesses counter- claim potential in close coordination with the relevant work package holder and other staff.
  • Leads subcontract commercial negotiations and account meetings, including preparation of subcontract final accounts (remeasured as required).
  • Carry out procurement of minor works / finishing works packages with support and input from head office personnel
  • Provide return of experience per contract package through ongoing feedback to head office, and final account close out reports including lessons learnt.
  • Must have remeasurement experience measuring quantities of work undertaken.
