Astute’s Power team is partnering with a leading principal contractor to recruit a Commissioning Control Room Operator for a 3-month minimum contract for projects in the UK.             Key skills  
  • Operate and control boilers, turbines, generators, and associated plant systems via DCS and local control panels
  • Support commissioning and start-up activities, ensuring systems are brought online safely and efficiently
  • Monitor plant performance, alarms, and process parameters, taking corrective action where required
  • Assist with mechanical commissioning tasks (e.g. pump works, filter changes, greasing, system checks)
  • Report operational issues, deviations, and risks to the Commissioning Manager and wider team
  • Candidates must have proven experience as a Control Room Operator (CRO) within Energy from Waste, Biomass or Thermal Power Plants

Astute’s Power team are looking to recruit x 4 QA/QC Pressure Parts Engineers on a 4 week outage in West Yorkshire starting in April 2026. There are x 2 positions on days, x 2 positions on nights.   The QA/QC Pressure Parts Engineer roles come with an hourly rate of £30-35. Key skills required for QA/QC Pressure Parts Engineer role  
  • Perform inspections of boiler pressure parts including membrane walls, superheaters, economisers, headers, drums, and associated pipework.
  • Carry out manufacturing surveillance at vendor workshops, including monitoring fabrication activities against ITPs and project requirements.
  • Verify welding activities including fit-up, welding parameters, weld mapping, and compliance with approved WPS/PQRs.
  • Confirm welder qualifications and ensure consumables and welding processes meet specification requirements.
  • Witness and review NDE activities (UT, RT, MT, PT) and confirm acceptance to relevant standards.
  • Verify material traceability including heat numbers, MTRs, and PMI requirements where applicable.
  • Witness pressure testing/hydrostatic testing and ensure test preparation and documentation is completed correctly.
  • Record inspection results, produce reports, and support compilation of QA/QC documentation and turnover packs.
  • Raise quality concerns and NCRs, supporting corrective action implementation and close-out.
  • Liaise with contractors, site supervision, and client representatives to ensure quality expectations are met.
  • Must be an experienced QA/QC engineer outages or shutdowns on large industrial plants, preferably Waste to Energy and/or Power plants.
  • Must hold strong understanding of pressure part manufacturing and installation practices.

  • Conduct, manage and plan quality inspections.
  • Champion quality assurance and inspection processes, producing clear and accurate reports covering quality approval, construction progress, non-conformances, defect resolution, and regulatory compliance.
  • Work closely with the site construction team, clients site-based quality and construction teams to ensure inspections, approvals, and documentation are fully compliant with project based and statutory requirements.
  • Support, monitor and promote compliance with the company’s and project requirements.
  • Track Snags/ Damages to show close out applying a golden thread approach.
  • Investigate quality non-conformities and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Support the continuous development of quality practices and initiatives with regards to performance improvements.
  • Essential to have experience in external & internal cladding, roofing and/or façade remediation.

They are looking to recruit a Site Quality Manager on a 12-month minimum contract for its site in Southeast of England.       The Site Quality Manager role comes with a day rate of £600.      Key skills required for the Site Quality Manager role   
  • Overall Site Quality Control (QC) lead & manager of the Site Quality team, reporting directly to the Project Site Manager (PSM), with functional reporting to the Project Quality Manager (PQM)
  • Demonstrates leadership and commitment to Health, Safety, Environment (HSE) & enforces construction site HSE requirements, and is required to support the PSIM in implementation of the site HSE policies as needed
  • Ensures that relevant quality certification necessary for site works are available and are valid and ensure that approved testing equipment is calibrated and properly used
  • Participates in the review and approval of assembly test plans and other quality-related documents (e.g. manufacturer approvals, process skills, personnel qualifications, inspection instructions) before installation. Responsible for organising, managing and conducting the intermediate and final inspections at construction site (IIS, FIS, MEC/TOP), according to the approved QC plan
  • Ensures that the quality requirements as per Inspection & Test Plan are fulfilled by the contractor, with progress and deviations recorded in the QC tool (PIRS web, LMS or ALP) and communicated to the respective contractor for action and through regular site walkdowns, identifies potential sources of deviation to the contractual requirement and records them in the QC tool
  • Must hold either EfW and Boiler experience or Boiler/ Power Plant experience

  • Responsible for controlling the numbering, filing, sorting and retrieval of electronically stored or hard copy documentation produced by technical teams, projects, or departments in a timely, accurate and efficient manner
  • Allocate and control the document numbering system for the project work
  • Respond in a timely manner to request to retrieve information, information searches and general requests for support from project/department personnel

The position will be on days only, working 12 hours, 7 days a week once in outage.    The Outage QA/QC Engineer roles come with an hourly rate of £40.00. Key skills required for Outage QA/QC Engineer role  
  • Provide QA/QC oversight during vessel boxing-up activities, ensuring correct gasket installation, bolting procedures, torquing, and final closure compliance.
  • Monitor and inspect valve welding activities, confirming adherence to approved WPS/PQR, material traceability, welder qualifications, and NDT requirements.
  • Oversee welding works, ensuring compliance with welding procedures, pre/post-weld heat treatment requirements, and inspection hold points.
  • Oversee valve overhaul activities, verifying inspection records, component replacement, pressure testing, and correct reassembly/ installation.
  • Ensure all quality documentation, ITPs, weld records, NDT reports, and test certificates are completed and compiled accurately.
  • Liaise with site management, contractors, and client representatives on quality matters.
  • Raise and manage NCRs where required and ensure close-out of quality issues.
  • Maintain a strong focus on safety, compliance, and outage schedule requirements.
  • Must have p roven experience in QA/QC within power generation, heavy industry, or similar environments.
  • Must have s trong knowledge of welding standards, pressure systems, and mechanical inspection practices.
  • Ideally hold CSWIP or equivalent welding inspection certificate.
