CDM Manager – EFW £550-£600 per day (Outside IR35) 12 Months Astute’s Power team is currently partnering with an EPC Contractor on their new build Energy from Waste facilities to recruit a CDM Manager. This position is available on either a part time or full-time basis across sites in Birmingham and Northeast of London. The CDM Manager role comes with a day rate of £550-600. Key skills:
  • Undertake suitable pre-qualification exercise and advise Project Engineering Manager in respect of project competency status.
  • Manage CDM compliance throughout the project duration.
  • Identify & Manage pre-construction information (PCI): Review PCI available and, where applicable identify gaps in content and formal communication of the same.
  • Undertake assessments arising from all design stakeholders and manage/coordinate H&S information as applicable. Designer residual risk will feed into the Project Risk Register.
  • Develop and manage the project H&S file strategy.
  • Feed PCI into the mobilisation process and collaborate with Contractors (including PC’s) in the development of design risk information and constructability reviews.
  • Produce and deliver project specific CDM, or other training where a need is identified, including to offshore (non-UK) design organisations.
  • Advise on CDM related issues such as design change, material (COSHH) issues and arising from unforeseeable events.

Astute’s Power team is partnering with a Principal Contractor in the Energy from Waste sector to recruit a Senior Authorised Person on a 12-month contract for its Scotland site.    The SAP role comes with a day rate of £500.00.      Key skills 
  • Demonstrate leadership and commitment to Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality (HSEQ). Actively encouraging and leading teams to implement and comply with project HSEQ requirements.
  • Ensure that relevant HSEQ requirements are incorporated into area of responsibility and, in consultation with site management, HSE and Commissioning team, that HSE hazards are eliminated or mitigated to the extent practicable.
  • Ensure that adequate precautions are taken to provide safety from the system whilst construction / commissioning work is carried out.
  • Oversee installation of the HV switching equipment (11kV or higher in special circumstances) and LV switching equipment
  • Oversee the energisation of the equipment.
  • Responsible for switching operations on the HV and LV switch gear and boards supplied by Contractor and Contractors.

  • Demonstrate leadership and commitment to Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW). Actively encourages and lead contractor teams to implement and comply with project HSW requirements.
    • Ensures that all relevant HSW requirements are incorporated into area of responsibility and that, in consultation with site management and HSW team, HSW hazards are eliminated or mitigated to the extent practicable
    • Ensures that risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) are reviewed with regards to HSW requirements, and that work is carried out in accordance with the RAMS.
    • Responsible for the safety and HSW performance of all personnel under their control, and for stopping work where this might be compromised.
    • Ensure works within area of responsibility are executed in accordance with the contract and conform with project time and budget requirements.
    • Act as the principal contact in the co-ordination of all scaffolding equipment on site.
    • Chair co-ordination meetings between the various contractors on site to ensure the minimum hindrance to the construction work.
    • Ensure all scaffolding operations are planned, organised, and undertaken by competent persons.

Astute’s Power Team is partnering with a leading global provider of Energy-from-Waste (EfW) solutions, this organisation delivers turnkey engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) projects across the full lifecycle, to recruit a Commissioning Engineer for its Glasgow Anaerobic Digestion Project on either a long-term contract or permanent basis.   Responsibilities and duties of the Commissioning Engineer role   You will:  
  • Perform hands on commissioning tasks in the field across mechanical, electrical, and process systems within assigned scope.
  • Manage and coordinate commissioning activities for allocated systems in line with the commissioning programme and project milestones.
  • Ensure systems are commissioned in accordance with design documentation, employer’s requirements, project specifications, and contractual obligations.
  • Oversee and coordinate subcontractors during commissioning activities, ensuring works are carried out safely, to specification, and to schedule.
  • Act as a technical interface between subcontractors, engineering disciplines, and the commissioning management team.
  • Identify deviations, technical issues, and risks, proposing and implementing corrective actions in coordination with relevant stakeholders.
  • Prepare, manage, and complete commissioning documentation, including test protocols, check sheets, punch lists, and handover dossiers.
  • Ensure commissioning QA/QC documentation is completed accurately and on time prior to system handover, PAC, or takeover
  • Willingness to travel and work on site throughout the Commissioning stage

  • Oversee commercial aspects of remaining project packages including structural steelwork, cladding, and administration building fit-out works
  • Provide commercial support across minor civil works and associated infrastructure elements
  • Administer and manage preliminaries packages, including scaffolding, design services, and other site-wide costs
  • Assist in the close-out of the main civil works account, ensuring all final accounts are accurately prepared, agreed, and settled
  • Prepare, submit, and negotiate interim valuations and final accounts with clients and subcontractors
  • Monitor and control project costs, identifying risks, variations, and opportunities to maintain budget compliance
  • Manage subcontractor procurement, including tendering, analysis, and appointment
  • Review and assess variations, change orders, and compensation events
  • Ensure timely and accurate cost reporting, forecasting, and cash flow management
