Full job description

TCi (GB) Ltd is a successful construction business delivering complex projects across the UK, including within highly regulated nuclear, defence and pharmaceutical environments. We are seeking an experienced SHEQ Manager to lead and continually improve our safety, health, environmental and quality performance across the business.

This visible, influential role combines strategic leadership with practical site engagement. You will advise the Managing Director and leadership team, manage the SHEQ function, and work with operational teams and supply-chain partners to ensure high standards are applied and sustained.

Working as a SHEQ Manager at TCi (GB) Ltd, you will own the development and implementation of TCi's integrated SHEQ arrangements, providing proportionate assurance without losing sight of project delivery. The role will ideally be based from Bristol and requires frequent travel to construction sites and offices across the UK, including overnight stays as required.

Leadership, strategy and governance

  • Develop and deliver the company SHEQ strategy, objectives and annual improvement plan, aligned with business priorities and legal, client and certification requirements.
  • Act as the senior competent adviser to the Managing Director, Board and operational leadership team on SHEQ risk, compliance, performance and emerging issues.
  • Lead, coach and coordinate the company's SHEQ advisers and representatives, setting clear standards and ensuring consistent support across projects.
  • Maintain a visible presence across projects, building strong relationships with site teams and promoting a practical, solutions-focused approach to SHEQ management
  • Provide concise monthly and periodic reports to senior management, using meaningful leading and lagging indicators to identify trends, priorities and corrective action.
  • Promote a positive, learning-led culture in which people are encouraged to raise concerns, challenge unsafe or non-compliant practice and share good performance.

Health and safety

  • Maintain effective arrangements for compliance with applicable health and safety legislation and construction duties, including CDM requirements.
  • Set and monitor company standards for risk assessment, method statements, permits, temporary works interfaces, occupational health and other critical controls.
  • Undertake a risk-based programme of site inspections, audits and leadership visits, ensuring actions are owned, prioritised and closed out.
  • Lead or oversee investigations into incidents, near misses and high-potential events; establish root causes, communicate learning and verify corrective actions.
  • Facilitate cross-project learning and the sharing of best practice to improve operational consistency and project performance.
  • Support operational teams in planning higher-risk activities and provide constructive intervention where standards are not met.

Environmental management

  • Lead environmental management arrangements, including aspects and impacts, legal compliance, pollution prevention, waste, resource efficiency and project controls.
  • Develop practical environmental and sustainability objectives, support carbon-reduction initiatives and monitor progress against agreed targets.
  • Ensure environmental incidents, complaints and non-conformances are investigated and resolved effectively.

Quality and assurance

  • Maintain and improve the company's integrated management system, supporting continued conformity with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, where applicable.
  • Establish proportionate quality planning and assurance across projects, including project quality plans, inspection and test plans, records, handover requirements and lessons learned.
  • Plan and deliver internal audits; coordinate external certification and client audits; and ensure non-conformances and improvement actions are closed effectively.
  • Work with operational and commercial teams to improve subcontractor SHEQ performance, engagement, and accountability throughout the project lifecycle
  • Analyse defects, rework, complaints and assurance findings to identify systemic issues and drive measurable improvement.
  • Work with commercial, procurement and project teams to assess and monitor subcontractor and supplier SHEQ capability and performance.

Operational and commercial support

  • Support pre-construction, mobilisation and tender submissions with credible SHEQ plans, evidence, risk input and client engagement.
  • Maintain clear policies, procedures, guidance and records that are legally compliant, practical and accessible to the people using them.
  • Identify competence and training needs, deliver briefings and workshops, and support managers to discharge their responsibilities confidently.
  • Build effective relationships with clients, regulators, certification bodies, insurers and other external stakeholders, representing TCi professionally.
  • Keep abreast of relevant legal, regulatory and industry developments and translate changes into proportionate business action.

You will be a pragmatic and credible SHEQ professional who can operate comfortably in the boardroom and on site. You will combine sound technical knowledge with the judgement, communication skills and resilience needed to influence busy construction teams and senior leaders.

Essential experience and qualifications

  • A Level 6 health and safety qualification, such as the NEBOSH Diploma, NVQ Level 6 Diploma or an equivalent recognised qualification.
  • Certified or Chartered membership of IOSH, or demonstrable progress toward Chartered status.
  • Substantial SHEQ experience in construction, including experience supporting multiple live projects and managing significant operational risk.
  • Strong working knowledge of UK construction health and safety legislation and practical application of CDM duties.
  • Demonstrable experience of audits, incident investigation, root-cause analysis, corrective action and management reporting.
  • Working knowledge of integrated management systems and ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
  • Experience of leading, managing or coordinating SHEQ professionals and influencing operational managers.

  • A recognised quality-management or auditing qualification, such as ISO 9001 Lead Auditor.
  • Experience in highly regulated sectors such as nuclear, defence, pharmaceutical, life sciences or secure infrastructure.
