The Role

Our Client is a leading EPC in the renewable energy field and Power Generation sector, who are consistently bidding and gaining new projects in the Energy from Waste sector in the UK. Currently they have a requirement for a Lead Commissioning Engineers to lead a team of Engineers and Technicians throughout the commissioning of the project. We are looking for candidates with building services experience. 

As Lead Commissioning Engineer, you will bring demonstrable commissioning experience and practical skills to the commissioning team. Working closely with the Commissioning team, you will be responsible for planning, executing and documenting of commissioning and handover activities on the project and programme of works in a safe manner, fully in accordance with company processes, systems, procedures and specifications. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Working in collaboration with the construction team, ensuring that commissioning activities are planned safely and to required quality standards and specifications
  • Providing appropriate support throughout the commissioning phase of the project
  • Updating of commissioning documentation including site reports and assisting with O&M manuals
  • Carrying out and recording of all commissioning tests
  • Liaising with onsite subcontractors where necessary
  • Reporting to the Project Director and Commissioning Manager and updating relevant personnel on site progress 
  • Adhered to health and safety regulations and reporting any incidents appropriately.

Requirements:

  • Commissioning experience gained within Energy from Waste, Biomass, and Gasification projects. 
  • Proven track record in a similar role and ability to communicate well at all levels
  • Building Services experience
  • Ability to work well independently and as well as part of a team

The Oversee Site Manager position comes with an hourly rate from £45.00 to £50.00. Role responsibilities and key skills for the role:
  • Oversee daily site activities for each of their projects within the renewables sector.

  • Manage site personnel and subcontractors, ensuring adherence to project plans, health & safety, and quality standards.

  • Liaise with project and construction managers to align site progress with programme milestones.

Astute's Power Team are currently recruiting 2 Electrical Testers to join a Electrical Main Contractor on a new build Waste to Energy facility based in Irvine, Scotland on a 5 months contractor under the CIS scheme.

The Electrician positions come with an hourly rate of £24.00 per hour. Role responsibilities and key skills for the role:
  • Perform electrical testing and commissioning of LV and MV cabling systems associated with Balance of Plant (BoP) infrastructure.

  • Conduct insulation resistance testing (IR), continuity checks, polarity tests, and phase rotation verification on power and control cables.

  • Interpret single-line diagrams, wiring schematics, and cable schedules to verify correct installation.

  • Ensure all cable terminations, joints, and connections meet industry standards and project specifications.

  • Document test results clearly and accurately in line with QA/QC protocols.

  • Coordinate with installation teams, supervisors, and commissioning engineers to troubleshoot faults or non-conformities.

  • Verify correct cable routing, glanding, and tagging across BoP systems (e.g., transformers, switchgear, MCCs, and auxiliary equipment).

  • Follow lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) and site safety procedures at all times.

Astute’s EPC Contract Power team is partnering with an EPC Contractor within the UK and Global Power Industry to recruit 2x Mechanical Commissioning Technicians on a 4 months initial contract for its Energy from Waste  facility based in Chester, Cheshire.

 

The Mechanical Technician roles comes with a day rate from £350.00 to £450.00.

 

 

Key skills and responsibilities: 

 
  • To assist in the planning and organising of the mechanical maintenance and repairs of plant and equipment in specific allocated areas of responsibility
  • Diagnose faults and carry out effective repairs whilst working on own initiative without supervision
  • To assist in surveys and inspections of plant and equipment and take corrective action as required by Company Procedures
  • Inspect and supervise all work carried out by contractors to ensure that the work meets the required standards
  • Ensure that repairs and planned maintenance are completed in a timely manner and carried out by skilled / qualified staff
  • Work closely with the Commissioning Engineers to commission the plant.
  • Report any reoccurring, serious and / or unusual defects to the engineering team and take corrective action in accordance with Company procedures
  • To ensure that plant and equipment are suitable and sufficient for activities to be compliant with legislation and licensing requirements
  • Carry out calibrations and verify a variety of measuring devices.
  • Ensure health and safety and security in own area of responsibility
  • Understand and manage risks and hazards associated with site and undertaking associated Risk Assessments
  • Implement work procedures and work instructions including site safety rules
  • Day-to-day communication with the Lead Mechanical Commissioning Engineer.
  • Report accidents and near misses and participate in investigations
  • Experience working within the Power Industry as a Mechanical Technician.
