Introduction…

My client supplies animal feed to farmers in the North of England offering customers efficient solutions to feeding on their farms. They are looking for a Mill Yard Operative to join their team.

Roles & Responsibilities

As the Mill Yard Operative, you will be responsible for:

  • Packing of animal feed from automated system: Operate packing machine to produce pallets of stacked feed using robotic palletiser, move full pallets to storage facility. Use of pallet wrapper where required to.
  • Stock rotation system to be followed and competency of stacking product in tidy orderly fashion. Schedule of packing and cross contamination rules followed. Check weigh bags as required to comply with trading standards. Records kept up to date.
  • Filling of mini bulk bags with animal feed: Using platform scale and hopper to fill mini bulk bags, Competency in using JCB loading shovel to fill hopper with blended feeds or other feeds. Use of platform scale to weigh bags and documentation for correct delivery information.
  • Loading of Compound Bulk Compound Feeds: Operators will be trained to use the weighbridge system for weighing our fleet of bulk vehicles; farm collected tractors and trailers; contracted bulk vehicles. Follow procedure for loading bulk vehicles, accuracy is paramount, and all information recorded correctly including vehicle storage compartment (box number); out-loading bin number. Other tasks during loading include sampling of product; checking vehicle cleanliness before loading and compartments are locked to prevent contamination with other products.
  • Tipping Raw Materials: Weighbridge operation again with training provided for sampling; physical quality checks; TASCC codes of practice checks include last three loads carried on the vehicle; that the three loads are not on the TASCC restricted list and if they are on the sensitive list then correct cleaning of the vehicle was performed after tippling that load. Cleaning methods could include sweeping, sanitising, or steam cleaning. Banksman training provided to ensure safe tipping of loads into designated tipping bays in the Blend shed and intakes in the Mill.

Harvest Work

  • Seasonal work running from July to September with a rota system for afterhours work: late shifts operate until 9pm for tipping of grain, and occasional night shifts and Sunday work for grain drying. Unsociable hours rewarded above standard pay.
  • This involves weighing in loads of grain delivered from farm, sampling of moisture and density (kg/ hectare litre) of the grain on Moisture analysis machine. Training provided for the use of setting up intake route on the process control system, then provide banksman for tipping before weighing vehicle out once they have tipped.
  • Operating fully automated grain drying and grain treating equipment to route grain from silo to store via treatment method or drying, testing moisture, and following protocol for machine adjustments

  • General Housekeeping: The Mill yard kept in a clean and tidy state using ride on yard sweeper; hand sweeper permissible in well ventilated areas; vacuuming of all areas of mill as and when required. Monthly cleaning audits completed to check on general housekeeping.
  • Driving Shunter Vehicles: A bulk vehicle is loaded, and operators trained to drive vehicle for moving raw material around the site, loading vehicle from bulk bins, or using JCB; tipping bulk vehicle on to flat storage areas or down designated intakes.
  • Using large bucket on the JCB for moving Raw Materials around the site, typically grain from storage facilities to intake and silos. Extra training provided for driving JCB for this task.
  • Repairing pallets: Pallets repaired where boards are missing and brought back into a usable state.
  • Painting and general upkeep of plant.
  • Health and Safety protocols followed.
  • The above are the main tasks but not limit of potential jobs and a willingness to help and be adaptable as required is necessary.
  • Progression to Manufacturing Operative possible for adept employees.

  • Prepare site-wide ducting/cabling layouts and earthing material schedules to guide installation teams.
  • Ensure all designs and drawings are reviewed, checked, and approved, including work from external suppliers.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines (structural, planning, CAD technicians) to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Embed safety and sustainability by design, ensuring CDM 2015 compliance.
  • Resolve design challenges and ensure project scope is delivered on time, on budget, and to quality standards.
  • Manage external design suppliers as needed.
  • Mentor and supervise junior engineers; contribute to team training and designer risk assessments.
  Professional qualifications   We are looking for someone with the following:  
  • Degree, HND, or HNC in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems Electrical preferred).
  • Proven HV/EHV substation design experience (11kV–132kV).

Key Responsibility: 

Supporting the delivery of nuclear power plant operating equipment to the client, from external suppliers, through the following activities:

  • Create/amend technical specifications for new equipment scope, utilising expert inputs where applicable.
  • Perform surveillance and approval of contractor deliverables and design activities.
  • Lead contract technical and project meetings
  • Resolution activities for multi-disciplinary technical issues and queries, including input to/ownership of resolving technical Open Points (OP), interface queries and Design Changes (UKDC).
  • Management of technical specialists to perform review of deliverables and to resolve technical issues.
  • Review and approve contract amendments and exemptions (CTSs, ERs)
  • Liaise with RD and client teams to ensure integration of equipment with interfacing functions/systems/structures
Qualifications

Profile:

  • Understanding of nuclear process and mechanical interfaces (anchorages, civil work, piping, fluids, radioprotection, safety, systems engineering)
  • Good knowledge of Valves 
  • Capable of producing technical specifications
  • Sound understanding of nuclear processing regulations
  • Experience on the design of the EPR TEP/TEU systems, or other nuclear / safety classified tanks, fluid handling systems and mechanical components.
  • Experience of equipment supply contracts and contract forms such as NEC/FIDIC.
