  • Demonstrate leadership and commitment to HSEQ.  Actively encouraging and leading the contractor teams to implement and comply with project HSEQ requirements.
  • Ensure that all relevant HSEQ requirements are incorporated into commissioning in consultation with site management, HSE and Commissioning team and that HSE hazards are eliminated or mitigated to the extent practicable
  • Ensure that risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) are reviewed with regards to HSEQ requirements, and that work is carried out in accordance with the RAMS
  • Lead the commissioning within area of responsibility for the principal contractor and ensure works are executed in accordance with contract requirements, and conform with the approved drawings and standards, project time and budget
  • Supervise and check the commissioning works being performed by the contractor in respect of timescales, HSEQ and compliance with the approved drawings and standards
  • Liaise and coordinate with other project team members, the Commissioning Manager, Erection Supervisors, HSE and Commercial Dept regarding commissioning works on time delivery, at costs and according to the specified quality and HSE requirements

The HSE Manager role offers the opportunity to lead all health, safety, and environmental activities on-site, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and best practices on a major industrial project with a leading Principal Contractor.   The HSE Manager role is paying between £550-600 per day.      Key skills required for the HSE Manager role 
  • Lead the management of all Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) related activities across the project as part of the management team, and in accordance with CDM2015 and the DEL integrated management system.
  • Develop, implement, and update as necessary, the Construction Phase Plan, Construction Environmental Management Plan, and associated HSE documents throughout the life of the project.
  • Advise Project Director of all incidents reportable under the companies recordable incident guidelines and R.I.D.D.O.R. in a timely manner.
  • Ensuring that the project is aware of and complies with all legislation in relation to the use of its plant and equipment, as well as workplace activities, and that the project meets its statutory and industry obligations in respect to industrial and safety matters at all times.

Lead QA/QC Engineer

Astute’s Power team are looking to recruit a Lead QA /QC Engineer on a 3-month contract basis on an outage in West Yorkshire starting in February 2026.   The Lead QA/QC Engineer role comes with an hourly rate of £40-45. Key skills required for the Lead QA/QC Engineer role  
  • Pre-Outage activities will be to Perform vendor and workshop surveillance inspections for pressure part fabrication prior to outage mobilisations.
  • Review fabrication documentation including ITPs, QCPs, WPS/PQRs, welder qualifications, and material certification packs.
  • Verify material traceability (heat numbers, MTRs, PMI requirements) for pressure boundary components.
  • Inspect fit-up, welding, dimensional compliance, and fabrication workmanship for boiler and piping components.
  • Witness and review NDE activities (UT, RT, MT, PT) and ensure results meet acceptance criteria.
  • Monitor fabrication hold/witness points in line with inspection and test plans (ITPs).
  • Support FATs, punch list closeout, and release notes prior to shipment.
  • On the outage you will be required to lead and coordinate the site QA/QC Engineers across multiple fronts.
  • Inspect installation and repair works on boiler pressure parts including membrane walls, superheaters, economisers, headers, and pipework systems.
  • Witness pressure testing activities, including hydrostatic tests and associated reinstatement checks.
  • Review and approve inspection documentation for handover, including NDE reports, weld logs, and pressure test packs.
  • Raise NCRs, manage quality issues, and ensure corrective actions are implemented and closed out effectively.
  • Support final documentation turnover and completion dossiers for outage deliverables.
  • Must be an experienced QA/QC engineer on pre and post outages or shutdowns on large industrial plants, preferably Waste to Energy and/or Power plants.
  • Must have experience on vendor/manufacturing inspections and site outage inspection activities.

Astute’s Power team is looking to recruit a HSE Manager on a pipework installation project in Hertfordshire on a 9-12 month contact basis for a start in November.     Key skills required for the HSE Manager:    
  • Translating site or contract-specific activities into effective Job Safety Analyses, or approved equivalent (e.g. Risk Assessment and Method Statements (RAMS)), and Safety Task Assignments that ensure HSE protection requirements are met.
  • Being present at the Worksite when Contractor has employees (including sub and lower-tier employees) onsite work.
  • Coordinating operations with other contractors as to not increase hazards or hazardous situations.
  • Monitoring, identifying, assessing, and managing HSE hazards associated with the Work to support the consistent application of safe work methods.
  • Ensuring compliance with all applicable statutory acts, regulations, and codes of practice.
  • Ensuring that required training is conducted and documented for all personnel for whom Contractor is responsible.
  • Providing and ensuring that all personnel are supplied with and trained in the correct use, fitting, and maintenance of personal protective equipment.
  • Conducting HSE assessments of Work being performed in alignment with Leading Indicator requirements.
  • Conducting weekly safety meetings with employees.
  • Submitting a weekly report documenting HSE activities.
