Astute’s Power team looking to recruit a Mechanical Maintenance Technician on an OCGT Power Station on a 3/6-month contract basis for its plant in Birmingham from November 2025. The Mechanical Maintenance Technician role comes with a day rate of between £300-350 per day (Inside IR35).             Key skills  
  • Responsible for the planned, reactive and breakdown maintenance on mechanical assets such as pumps, gearboxes, valves, gas turbines etc
  • Work in line with maintenance techniques and practises
  • Assisting in plant developments
  • Involved in continuous improvement activities, plant inspections and fault investigation work.
  • Liaise with the operations team to ensure plant availability.

  • Supervise and verify compliance with quality standards during the construction phase of the wastewater treatment plant.
  • Ensure that civil engineering works comply with applicable international regulations, project specifications, and internal quality standards.
  • Implement quality control plans and internal auditing processes to ensure consistency and performance of on-site activities.
  • Review and approve quality documents, including procedures and inspections.
  • Review contractual aspects with the client to coordinate claims.
  • Conduct internal audits of the project to identify any deviations.
  • Ensure proper execution of material and construction process quality inspections.
  • Must hold excellent communication skills to manage relationships at various levels with the client and other disciplines involved in project execution

  • Acting as the office administrator for the site including managing office supplies, filing, organization of travel, recording and storing of documentation
  • Acting as the Facilities Assistant - maintaining the overall operation and upkeep of the site compound, ensuring all facilities are safe, clean, and fully functional. Supporting daily site activities, including managing utilities, coordinating maintenance tasks, and assisting with general site logistics.
  • Providing full administrative support to the Site Manager.
  • Welcome visitors and clients including arranging catering as required
  • Provide full administrative support to the Site Manager.
  • Keep the Site Manager informed of all site related activities.

  • Act as the Electrical Duty Holder for the site, ensuring compliance with statutory and company requirements.
  • Promote and support plant safety initiatives, including participation in Near Miss and Incident Investigations, and implement resulting recommendations.
  • Ensure all Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) assets comply with Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Develop, implement, and test software modules and control systems or equivalent platforms.
  • Lead fault-finding and root cause investigations for EC&I systems to identify and resolve technical issues effectively.

  • Supervise piping construction activities during day and night shifts to ensure work is carried out safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications and drawings.
  • Coordinate piping crews and subcontractors to meet daily and weekly work targets.
  • Develop and prepare Bills of Materials (BoM) required for snag rectification and outstanding works.
