What you'll be doing;

  • Work as the senior team leader of a team of other electrical or mechanical engineers and mechanical fitters, often consisting of two or more engineers across a range of sites

  • Carry out electrically complex and detailed asset overhauls and replacements

  • Undertake complex electrical repairs and modifications dewatering equipment, pumps, pipework, valves and other ancillary equipment

  • Working under CDM regulations on projects work 

  • Leading remedial work on dewatering EICA systems

  • Troubleshooting on dewatering electrical systems: filtration, centrifuge

  • Design and installation to WIMES of electrical control systems including switchgear

  • Complete wiring and cabling works

  • Undertake standby cover and overtime as required as well as flexibility to work away from home

We are currently recruiting for a Structural Engineering Manager who will be reporting to the Head of Engineering. The Structural Manager will provide technical leadership, guidance, and governance of the Structural design team. 

Responsible for developing and implementing tools and processes that ensure design processes are robust and outputs are in line with scope. The Structural Manager should be driven to reduce engineering lead times, improve quality and accuracy, and reduce costs without compromising on safety.

Effectively communicating expected deliverables to their team and working closely with stakeholders and peers to drive accountability, ownership, and measured performance.

 

Roles & Responsibilities

From the outset you can expect to be involved in, and not limited to, the following:
  • Provide line management to Structural Engineers
  • Monitor department performance using agreed KPI’s
  • Ensure 100% compliance and governance with business policy and procedures
  • Maintain and manage designs and processes that are compliant with current industry standards and have been suitably reviewed, checked and records maintained
  • Monitor and enforce the Structural Engineering design process, that it is compliant with ISO standards 9001, 14001 and 45001, or equivalent, including the planning, preparation, and participation of external audits as required
  • Accountable for ensuring all Structural Engineering is delivered in line with project budget, scope, and schedule and is resourced to do so. Where this requires external support, produce purchase specifications for any subcontracted elements of work and ensure competency of subcontractors
  • Collaborate with the project team in design reviews, and that all agreed actions are followed through to completion
  • Develop engineering scope from quotations and customer specifications with consideration to past designs and future development opportunities
  • Support Proposals/Bids with steel target weights, engineering time and concept design
  • Support the business strategy for best practice across all areas of the business, providing leadership, mentoring and guidance to the Structural team
  • Drive continuous improvement strategies with the Head of Engineering and other key stakeholders: process improvement, cost reduction, standardisation of conveyors, assemblies, and parts in a standard parts library
  • Where required provide client facing support on project or technical issues and be available for infrequent travel as required

Skills & Qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

  • Chartered in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Considerable experience in a technical role with experience designing steel structures including towers and gantries
  • Experience in Engineering Management position
  • Experience and sound knowledge of Eurocodes and British Standards relating to structural design.
  • Knowledge of design requirements of CDM Regs and EN1090
  • Proficient with STAAD and knowledge of Tekla software packages
  • Excellent presenting skills, capable of presenting to Director level / clients Able to motivate, lead and encourage others – setting high professional standards

Introduction

I have an incredible opportunity for a design focused senior civil engineer with experience of complex reinforced concrete and steel frame structure construction projects to join the team responsible for delivering the challenging nuclear and conventional island portions of one of the largest engineering projects in Europe at Hinkley Point C in Somerset.

 

Roles & Responsibilities

As a Civil Engineer you will be responsible for a variety of tasks to support an extremely busy client project office.

General duties in each case would be expected to include:

Civil engineering

  • Ensuring the consistency of the input data;
  • Producing deliverables such as design hypotheses, methodology and assumption notes, technical specifications, calculation notes, etc.;
  • Developing RC design modifications related to Civil Contractor or Client change requests (specific to Site Base);
  • Justifying the compliance of modifications with Civil Standards (ETC-C, RCC-CW, Eurocodes, CDM) and Nuclear Safety Requirements.
  • Facilitating the construction in coordinating the stakeholders of the projects (Civil detailed design providers, construction teams, project management, client);
  • Interfacing with multidisciplinary teams to assess the impact of the modifications
  • Visiting the construction site to follow up the progress and understand the issues/requests (specific to Site Base);
  • Managing a part of a Nuclear Building after some months in the project;
  • Controlling the detail design notes and drafts from external design offices
  • Maintaining company and customer’s QA procedures in the delivery of the civil design of a nuclear reactor site
  • Working with CAD designers in the preparation of the design drawing and models
  • Writing related technical notes to support delivery
  • Participating in technical communities to support the development of other staff

 

Skills & Qualifications

Whilst previous nuclear project exposure would be a distinct advantage it is not a requirement, and any transferable large complex construction experience will be considered. The civil work design is made on TEKLA, and used as a deliverable directly for construction activities for different tasks.

We are looking for someone with the following attributes:

  • Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in civil engineering
  • Civil engineering design office experience, particularly in the design of industrial reinforced concrete and complex steel frame structures.
  • Detailed design and load analysis
  • Direct Eurocodes experience
