Civil and Structural Engineer – Nuclear New Build

Barnwood

£45-55k DOE plus comprehensive package to include relocation

Introduction

I have an incredible opportunity for a design focused senior civil engineer with experience of complex reinforced concrete and steel frame structure construction projects to join the team responsible for delivering the challenging nuclear and conventional island portions of one of the largest engineering projects in Europe at Hinkley Point C in Somerset.

Roles & Responsibilities

As a Civil Engineer you will be responsible for a variety of tasks to support an extremely busy client project office.

General duties in each case would be expected to include:

Civil engineering

  • Ensuring the consistency of the input data;
  • Producing deliverables such as design hypotheses, methodology and assumption notes, technical specifications, calculation notes, etc.;
  • Developing RC design modifications related to Civil Contractor or Client change requests (specific to Site Base);
  • Justifying the compliance of modifications with Civil Standards (ETC-C, RCC-CW, Eurocodes, CDM) and Nuclear Safety Requirements.
  • Facilitating the construction in coordinating the stakeholders of the projects (Civil detailed design providers, construction teams, project management, client);
  • Interfacing with multidisciplinary teams to assess the impact of the modifications
  • Visiting the construction site to follow up the progress and understand the issues/requests (specific to Site Base);
  • Managing a part of a Nuclear Building after some months in the project;
  • Controlling the detail design notes and drafts from external design offices
  • Maintaining company and customer’s QA procedures in the delivery of the civil design of a nuclear reactor site
  • Working with CAD designers in the preparation of the design drawing and models
  • Writing related technical notes to support delivery
  • Participating in technical communities to support the development of other staff

Skills & Qualifications

Whilst previous nuclear project exposure would be a distinct advantage it is not a requirement, and any transferable large complex construction experience will be considered. The civil work design is made on TEKLA, and used as a deliverable directly for construction activities for different tasks.

We are looking for someone with the following attributes:

  • Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in civil engineering
  • Civil engineering design office experience, particularly in the design of industrial reinforced concrete and complex steel frame structures.
  • Detailed design and load analysis
  • Direct Eurocodes experience

Salary & Package

In addition to a comprehensive package as outlined below, you will be joining one of EDF’s key strategic partners involved in rebuilding the UK’s nuclear new build skillset and gain invaluable knowledge and experience in this field at a very exciting period of growth for them.

Package details will include:

  • Pension - 5% of gross basic salary matched + voluntary contribution
  • Annual Leave - 25 days + Bank Holidays
  • Health Insurance - Company's Private Medical Insurance Plan
  • Life Assurance - 4 times basic salary
  • Enhanced company sick pay
