CAD Engineer – Industrial and Process Plant

London

Introduction…

Astute have been selected to source a CAD Engineer to work for a sustainable energy company in London on a 3 month contract which could extend to 6 months and beyond. They create bespoke solutions per site/company to ensure they are as energy efficient as possible and we’re looking for a CAD Engineer or CAD Designer to join the time to help through a busy period with project work across mechanical, electrical, civil and architectural disciplines.

 

At interview stage, there will be a 3D AutoCAD competency test, likely to involve conversion of a 2D drawing into 3D using the 2D DWG in under an hour.

 

Roles & Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, as a CAD Engineer or CAD Designer, you will be responsible for:

 

  • Preparing 2D and 3D drawings layout drawings
  • Working on a variety of projects, anything from hospital plant room design and install, to HVAC design in airports
  • Design the layout and integration of new or modified equipment for HVAC and plant rooms
  • Able to conduct site surveys in order to accurately draw and design
  • Able to design to programme and timescales
  • Liaising with project teams, suppliers and clients alike
  • Read P&IDs and update design drawings

 

Skills & Qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

 

  • Minimum 2 years of genuine AutoCAD 2D and 3D experience
  • Experience with AutoCAD Plant 3D and/or AutoCAD MEP
  • An excellent general understanding of engineering principles and piping standards
  • HNC or HND is engineering hugely preferable
  • Clash detection experience with Autodesk Navisworks is desirable
  • Revit and BIM modelling experience also desirable
  • As a contractor, you must have your own laptop and AutoCad 3D licence

The company run and own landfill gas assets and have a growth plan into the Anaerobic Digestion sector too. We’re looking for an Electrical Technician to join their team of multi-skilled technicians, that are responsible for complex fault diagnosis and maintenance on reciprocating engines, generators, electrical distribution and controls on power stations, to ensure optimum production and reduced downtime. This Electrical Technician role comes with a salary up to £57,000 and an excellent package too – see below for details.   • Lead fault diagnostics for reciprocating engine electrical/electronic controls, instrumentation, LV/HV apparatus, and balance-of-plant systems to enhance power station performance and revenue generation.
  • Support 24/7 operation of the power station's generating units and ancillary equipment in accordance with standard procedures, ensuring maximum efficiency and revenue generation.
  • Perform planned and corrective maintenance on electrical, electronic, control, and instrumentation systems to enhance reliability, improve productivity, and minimise generating unit downtime.
  • Develop and implement solutions for operational and maintenance challenges – communicating new ideas to solve problems.
  • Stock control – maintain a steady stream of spare parts and components, especially any that require regular changes.
  • Accurately record and report routine inspections and reactive maintenance works.
  • Stay informed about relevant health and safety, operating procedures and standards, including those related to Health & Safety (HSE), the Environment Agency, ATEX/DSEAR, and technical regulations within your discipline.
    Professional qualifications We are looking for someone with the following:  
  • Demonstrable experience in industrial electrical inspection, testing, fault finding and maintenance – preferably in a power station, high voltage or other industrial environment.
  • City and Guilds / NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in an Electrical discipline – such as Testing & Inspection, Electrical Installation, Electrical Power Systems Engineering etc.
  • Apprenticeship served in an industrial electrical environment would be advantageous but not essential.
  • LV/HV (Low or High Voltage) authorised tickets would be advantageous but not essential.
  • Understanding of HV switching operations a strong advantage.
  • Experience in fault finding electrical systems inside power stations, substations or other energy plant would be a strong advantage.
  • Computer literate, using MS office, SAP and inhouse data/tracking systems.
  • Able to understand engineering drawings and diagrams.
  • Must hold a valid driving license.
    Personal skills The Lead Technician role would suit someone who is:  
  • Observant and respects health and safety standards and procedures such as Lockout-Tagout (LOTO)

  • Experience in Anaerobic Digestion, biogas/biomethane, liquid organic waste management and biomethane injection would be hugely beneficial
  • Understand anaerobic digestion and sludge and experience with the production of process calculations, process flow diagrams and developing specifications. 
  • Experience managing large contract values, up to £30m ideally
  • Understanding regulations and guidance for CNG, Biomethane, CO2 capture, DSEAR regulations and Biogas/biomethane technologies
  • Experience in development of new and emerging technologies
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with emphasis on working effectively in cross-functional teams at all levels of the company
  • Self-motivated, with good organisational and time management skills
