Astute’s Nuclear team is partnering with a world class engineering company providing products and services to meet the needs of their customers for engineered solutions to high temperature/thermal engineering problems. They are recruiting a Senior Quantity Surveyor for its Hinkley Point C project on a full time, permanent basis.

 

The Senior Quantity Surveyor role is pivotal to the site operations and comes with a base salary of £83 – £90,000, overtime, accommodation allowances, travel expenses, and 28 days annual leave + bank holidays.

Responsibilities and duties

  • Lead and manage the commercial function from procurement through to final account.
  • Work closely with the Senior Project Manager on day-to-day contract administration.
  • Oversee variation processes, claims, and dispute resolution—NEC contract experience essential.
  • Provide cost forecasts, monitor budgets, and manage project cash flow.
  • Administer and manage valuations, applications, invoicing, and subcontractor account reviews.
  • Maintain the risk register and develop mitigation plans in collaboration with the wider team.
  • Proactively manage relationships with clients, legal advisors, contractors, and internal teams.
  • Report on commercial KPIs and provide regular updates to senior leadership and stakeholders.
  • Ensure adherence to corporate governance and project-specific contractual obligations.
  • Provide expert contractual advice to minimise liabilities and support project compliance

 

Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Professional chartership/membership preferred (e.g., RICS, CIOB).
  • Experience in sectors such as infrastructure, energy, rail, or major civil engineering projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of NEC3 contracts and construction law.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage financial aspects, contract negotiations, and commercial risk.
  • Experienced working in Tier 1 or Tier 2 contractors is highly desirable.

  • Demonstrate leadership and commitment to Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW). Actively encourages and lead contractor teams to implement and comply with project HSW requirements.
    • Ensures that all relevant HSW requirements are incorporated into area of responsibility and that, in consultation with site management and HSW team, HSW hazards are eliminated or mitigated to the extent practicable
    • Ensures that risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) are reviewed with regards to HSW requirements, and that work is carried out in accordance with the RAMS.
    • Responsible for the safety and HSW performance of all personnel under their control, and for stopping work where this might be compromised.
    • Ensure works within area of responsibility are executed in accordance with the contract and conform with project time and budget requirements.
    • Act as the principal contact in the co-ordination of all scaffolding equipment on site.
    • Chair co-ordination meetings between the various contractors on site to ensure the minimum hindrance to the construction work.
    • Ensure all scaffolding operations are planned, organised, and undertaken by competent persons.
    • Ensure that the scaffolding equipment is positioned and installed so, as to minimise any risks e. g. from the load falling or striking people.
    • Ensure that scaffolding equipment is suitable for the proposed use and is marked with any appropriate information to be taken its safe use into account.
    • Ensure that scaffolding equipment and scaffolding accessories are subject to a periodic thorough examination to confirm they are fit for purpose.
    • Design and pre-plan the scaffold including weight limitations, scaffold type, fall protection, tie-offs, supports, etc.
    • Must hold Mechanical TW (Temporary Works) experience
