Astute’s Power team are looking to recruit a Lead QA /QC Engineer on a 3-month contract basis on an outage in West Yorkshire starting in February 2026.   The Lead QA/QC Engineer role comes with an hourly rate of £40-45. Key skills required for the Lead QA/QC Engineer role  

• Pre-Outage activities will be to Perform vendor and workshop surveillance inspections for pressure part fabrication prior to outage mobilisations.

• Review fabrication documentation including ITPs, QCPs, WPS/PQRs, welder qualifications, and material certification packs.
• Verify material traceability (heat numbers, MTRs, PMI requirements) for pressure boundary components.
• Inspect fit-up, welding, dimensional compliance, and fabrication workmanship for boiler and piping components.
• Witness and review NDE activities (UT, RT, MT, PT) and ensure results meet acceptance criteria.
• Monitor fabrication hold/witness points in line with inspection and test plans (ITPs).
• Support FATs, punch list closeout, and release notes prior to shipment.
• On the outage you will be required to lead and coordinate the site QA/QC Engineers across multiple fronts.
• Inspect installation and repair works on boiler pressure parts including membrane walls, superheaters, economisers, headers, and pipework systems.
• Witness pressure testing activities, including hydrostatic tests and associated reinstatement checks.
• Review and approve inspection documentation for handover, including NDE reports, weld logs, and pressure test packs.
• Raise NCRs, manage quality issues, and ensure corrective actions are implemented and closed out effectively.
• Support final documentation turnover and completion dossiers for outage deliverables.
• Must be an experienced QA/QC engineer on pre and post outages or shutdowns on large industrial plants, preferably Waste to Energy and/or Power plants.
• Must have experience on vendor/manufacturing inspections and site outage inspection activities.

Astute’s Power team is partnering with a leading principal contractor in the Energy from Waste sector to recruit a Mechanical Site Supervisor on a contract basis for its Leeds site.   The Mechanical Site Supervisor role comes with a day rate of £450. Key skills required for the Mechanical Site Supervisor role  

• Supervise piping construction activities during day and night shifts to ensure work is carried out safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications and drawings.
• Coordinate piping crews and subcontractors to meet daily and weekly work targets.
• Develop and prepare Bills of Materials (BoM) required for snag rectification and outstanding works.
• Coordinate with engineering, quality, and construction teams to resolve technical issues and discrepancies.
• Conduct site inspections and participate in walkdowns with clients and third-party inspectors as required.
• Enforce health, safety, and environmental (HSE) requirements and always promote safe working practices.
• Must have experience in working on an EFW (Energy from Waste) plant in construction / handover
• Site Supervisor experience with experience in mechanical snagging closures.

Astute’s Power team are looking to recruit a Site Assistant on an 18-month contract for a construction project, working full time on site, in North London. The Site Assistant role comes with a hourly rate of between £18.00 - £20.00.             Key skills  

• Act as office administrator for the site including office supplies, filing, organization of travel, recording and storing of documents.
• Provide full admin support to the Site Manager and keep them informed of all site-related activities
• Act as project assistant for the site team (Arranging travel and creating documents)
• Welcome visitors and clients
• Site based office administration experience, with previous work in construction industries will be highly beneficial. 
• Must be available to work on site full time (Monday – Friday)
• Must ideally hold an SSC, CSCS or CCNSG Card.

Astute’s Power team is partnering with a leading principal contractor in the Energy from Waste sector who are looking to recruit a Commissioning BOP (Balance of Plant) Supervisor on a 12-month contract basis.        Key skills required for the Commissioning BOP Supervisor   

• Mechanical engineer with at least 5 years of experience in the commissioning of thermal power plants, EFW or similar. Having been responsible for the commissioning of the BOP in this type of plant.
• Leadership, teamwork skills and the ability to solve problems independently are characteristics that the candidate must possess.
• Must have Knowledge of logic diagrams and TFAs management skills will be valued
• Reporting to the Commissioning Manager, the candidate will be responsible for commissioning the BOP in collaboration with other disciplines, such as electrical, I&C, operations, etc and with the TFAs of the boiler supplier.
• Coordinating with the site LOTO responsible Senior Authorised Person for planning and implementation of all permits related activities

Astute’s Power team are looking to recruit a Civil Quantity Surveyor on an Energy from Waste Project in Essex on a 12 month minimum contract.             Key skills

• Oversee commercial aspects of remaining project packages including structural steelwork, cladding, and administration building fit-out works
• Provide commercial support across minor civil works and associated infrastructure elements
• Administer and manage preliminaries packages, including scaffolding, design services, and other site-wide costs
• Assist in the close-out of the main civil works account, ensuring all final accounts are accurately prepared, agreed, and settled
• Prepare, submit, and negotiate interim valuations and final accounts with clients and subcontractors
• Monitor and control project costs, identifying risks, variations, and opportunities to maintain budget compliance
• Manage subcontractor procurement, including tendering, analysis, and appointment
• Review and assess variations, change orders, and compensation events
• Ensure timely and accurate cost reporting, forecasting, and cash flow management
• Liaise closely with site teams, project managers, and commercial leads to ensure alignment on project delivery
• Maintain accurate commercial records and documentation in line with company procedures
• Support the commercial team with contract administration and compliance
• Attend site regularly (primarily full-time on-site role initially) to monitor progress and provide hands-on commercial support
• Must be experienced within civil packages including concrete, earthworks, groundworks and pilling including building services such as structural steel, cladding and building fit out.

Astute’s Power team is partnering with a leading principal contractor in the water treatment sector who are looking to recruit a Commercial Associate / Assistant on a 18-month minimum contract for its London site.      The Commercial Associate / Assistant role comes with a competitive day rate.      Key skills required for the Commercial Associate / Assistant   

• Have regard for the contract procedures requiring formal notices, time limits and other parameters.
• Ensure that the Project Team is fully aware of the prevalent constraints, conditions and contractual environment.
• Ensure that proper mechanisms for risk transfer to subcontractors and insurance providers are identified and enforced.
• Always protect the contractual position, enforcing the notification regime of the Contract. This is an NEC IChem E hybrid contract in the water industry including Compensation event management.
• Prepare submissions for Contractual Claims / Compensation events and other contractually allowable relevant events.
• Fully monitor and report exposure to Liquidated Damages.
• Must hold experience in large construction projects, managing complex contract in the UK with NEC IchemE experience.
• Ideal qualifications as either BSc Civil, Mechanical / Electrical Engineering or Quantity Surveyor

Astute’s Power team are looking to recruit an Electrical Instrumentation and Control Site Supervisor on a long-term contract for a project in West Midlands from September 2026.             Key skills

• Take ownership of EIC site activities across electrical, instrumentation, and control systems
• Act as the key on-site interface between contractors, site management, and engineering teams
• Support installation, testing, and commissioning to meet programme milestones
• Drive safe, efficient execution aligned to project timelines and quality standards
• Provide practical, on-the-ground leadership to ensure work is delivered right first time
• Lead and enforce HSEQ standards, ensuring all works are carried out in line with approved RAMS
• Coordinate subcontractors and vendors to maintain progress and resolve issues quickly
• Manage defects, punch lists, and completion activities through to close-out
• Support testing, commissioning, and fault-finding across EIC systems
• Raise and manage site changes, deviations, and interface issues with the wider project team
• Must be someone has who proven experience in EIC Supervision ideally within an EFW (Energy from Waste) / Energy project (Power, Oil & Gas etc).
• Must have a strong background working in live construction and commissioning environments
• Must hold an SSSTS (or equivalent)
• Must have experience within HV/LV/MW systems, instrumentation and control systems i.e. PLC /DCS

Quantity Surveyor Feb 2024  Enfield £500 Per Day 12 Months      About the role: Astute’s Power team are currently partnering with a Principal Contractor to recruit a Quantity Surveyor on for a site of theirs near Enfield. The Quantity Surveyor role comes of £500 per day. Outside IR35.                   Key skills: · Signing of subcontracts and collaborating in the offer phase.

• Co ordinate with Construction, Procurement and Finance Departments in closing of subcontracts.
• Co ordinate with Project Control regarding planning and cost controls on site.
• Manage PAC
• Manage back charges and Contradictory prices.
• Claims and Measure Management.
• Address any needs of reports or special analysis requested by Project Control or Project Director on site.

• Hold experience in working on an Energy from Waste project or similar sector in Construction.
