  • Supervise piping construction activities during day and night shifts to ensure work is carried out safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications and drawings.

Outage QA/QC Engineer

Astute’s Power team are looking to recruit x 4 QA/QC Pressure Parts Engineers on a 4 week outage in West Yorkshire starting in April 2026. There are x 2 positions on days, x 2 positions on nights.   The QA/QC Pressure Parts Engineer roles come with an hourly rate of £30-35. Key skills required for QA/QC Pressure Parts Engineer role  
  • Perform inspections of boiler pressure parts including membrane walls, superheaters, economisers, headers, drums, and associated pipework.
  • Carry out manufacturing surveillance at vendor workshops, including monitoring fabrication activities against ITPs and project requirements.
  • Verify welding activities including fit-up, welding parameters, weld mapping, and compliance with approved WPS/PQRs.
  • Confirm welder qualifications and ensure consumables and welding processes meet specification requirements.
  • Witness and review NDE activities (UT, RT, MT, PT) and confirm acceptance to relevant standards.
  • Verify material traceability including heat numbers, MTRs, and PMI requirements where applicable.
  • Witness pressure testing/hydrostatic testing and ensure test preparation and documentation is completed correctly.
  • Record inspection results, produce reports, and support compilation of QA/QC documentation and turnover packs.
  • Raise quality concerns and NCRs, supporting corrective action implementation and close-out.
  • Liaise with contractors, site supervision, and client representatives to ensure quality expectations are met.
  • Must be an experienced QA/QC engineer outages or shutdowns on large industrial plants, preferably Waste to Energy and/or Power plants.
  • Must hold strong understanding of pressure part manufacturing and installation practices.

Astute’s Power Team is partnering with a leading global provider of Energy-from-Waste (EfW) solutions, this organisation delivers turnkey engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) projects across the full lifecycle, to recruit a Commissioning Engineer for its Glasgow Anaerobic Digestion Project on either a long-term contract or permanent basis.   Responsibilities and duties of the Commissioning Engineer role   You will:  
  • Perform hands on commissioning tasks in the field across mechanical, electrical, and process systems within assigned scope.
  • Manage and coordinate commissioning activities for allocated systems in line with the commissioning programme and project milestones.
  • Ensure systems are commissioned in accordance with design documentation, employer’s requirements, project specifications, and contractual obligations.
  • Oversee and coordinate subcontractors during commissioning activities, ensuring works are carried out safely, to specification, and to schedule.
  • Act as a technical interface between subcontractors, engineering disciplines, and the commissioning management team.
  • Identify deviations, technical issues, and risks, proposing and implementing corrective actions in coordination with relevant stakeholders.
  • Prepare, manage, and complete commissioning documentation, including test protocols, check sheets, punch lists, and handover dossiers.
  • Ensure commissioning QA/QC documentation is completed accurately and on time prior to system handover, PAC, or takeover
  • Willingness to travel and work on site throughout the Commissioning stage
  • Must have experience on large-scale industrial plants as a Commissioning Engineer ideally on RG (Renewable Gas) plants e.g. AD (Anaerobic digestion, gas upgrading, utilities or balance of plant).

  • Review contractual aspects with the client to coordinate claims.

Astute’s Power team are looking to recruit a Site Quality Manager on a long-term contract for a project based in the Southeast of England from an April 2026 start.             Key skills
  • Oversee all Site Quality Control (QC) activities and the on-site Quality team
  • Act as QC Lead reporting to the Project Site Manager, with functional reporting to the Project Quality Manager
  • Ensure compliance with HSE, quality standards and contractual requirements

Project QA/HSE

Astute’s Power team are looking to recruit a Project HSE on a 8-month minimum contract for a large industrial project in Sheffield.             Key skills
  • Work closely with the project manager, supervisors and contractors as well as client representatives to maintain a safe working environment, prevent incidents, promote positive behaviours, and ensure strict adherence to RAMS, permits, emergency arrangements, site rules and Inspection Test Plans (ITP’s).
  • Provide HSEQ support to Supervisors during planning, execution and sequencing of construction activities in particular construction activities to meet ITP requirements.
  • Lead and participate in site inspections, audits, behavioural safety observations and sensible monitoring programmes.
  • Ensure controls are in place for high-risk activities including lifting operations, mobile plant and traffic management and working at heights.
  • Participate in look-ahead planning meetings to identify upcoming HSEQ risks and requirements.
  • Support the adoption of temporary works procedures and ensure relevant checks, inspections and controls are in place.
  • Support the Project Manager and Supervisors in ensuring daily safe starts, toolbox talks and RAMS briefings are delivered effectively.
  • Must hold a NEBOSH General Certificate
  • Must have experience working within construction, civil engineering, energy or heavy infrastructure projects.
  • Must also have a good understanding of Temporary Works.
