Introduction

We're looking for an experienced Electrical Test Electrician to join a rapidly expanding business offering all aspects of electrical testing. As the Electrical Test Electrician, you will be responsible for carrying out scheduled electrical tests as well as electrical repairs / minor works on various retail and commercial properties.

Astute’s Power team is partnering with a leading principal contractor in the Energy from Waste sector to recruit a Lead Commissioning Boiler Engineer on a contract basis for its West Midlands site from September 2026.   The Lead Commissioning Boiler Engineer role comes with a day rate of £600. Key skills required for the Lead Commissioning Boiler Engineer role  
  • Take ownership of boiler commissioning activities, ensuring delivery in line with project requirements, contractual obligations, and HSEQ standards.
  • Review, implement, and enforce HSEQ requirements during commissioning, ensuring all activities are carried out in accordance with RAMS, site standards, and applicable legislation
  • Take overall responsibility for commissioning the full boiler package, ensuring all systems are delivered safely, on time, and in line with contractual and technical requirements
  • Oversee and coordinate commissioning activities to ensure alignment with project contracts, schedules, budgets, and approved standards
  • Coordinate with internal teams, subcontractors, OEMs, and external authorities to ensure safe, timely, and high-quality execution of commissioning activities
  • Maintain accurate commissioning documentation, provide regular progress reports, and contribute to lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Must be degree-qualified Mechanical or Process Engineer with proven experience in the commissioning stages of a Power/EFW plant.

Astute’s Power team are looking to recruit an Temporary Works Coordinator on a long-term contract for a water treatment project in North London.             Key skills
  • Coordinate and manage all temporary works on site in accordance with BS 5975.
  • Maintain the Temporary Works Register and ensure all temporary works are correctly categorised.
  • Review and coordinate temporary works designs, calculations, and approvals.
  • Liaise with designers, engineers, subcontractors, and site management teams.
  • Ensure Temporary Works Permits are issued, monitored, and closed out appropriately.
  • Verify that temporary works are constructed, inspected, and dismantled in accordance with approved designs.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits of temporary works activities.
  • Ensure risks associated with excavation support, formwork, falsework, access scaffolding, lifting operations, cofferdams, pipework supports, and temporary structures are effectively managed.
  • Chair temporary works coordination meetings and communicate requirements to project teams.
  • Support compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.
  • Assist in planning construction activities to minimise operational impacts within live water treatment environments.

  • Have regard for the contract procedures requiring formal notices, time limits and other parameters.
  • Ensure that the Project Team is fully aware of the prevalent constraints, conditions and contractual environment.

Astute's Power Team are currently recruiting for an Electrical Commissioning Technician to join the commissioning team for their OCGT plant based Stewartby, Bedfordshire on an initial 4 months contract basis.

The Electrical Commissioning Technician position come with a day rate from £400.00 to £475.00 outside of IR35. Role responsibilities and key skills for the role:  
  • Hands-on commissioning of electrical components and systems such as, transformers, medium/low voltage switchgears, DC systems, rectifiers, inverters, motorized valves, instruments etc. Fully competent at using Primary & Secondary Injection test set equipment.
  • Assist the commissioning engineers in carrying out testing on electrical systems and equipment, as well as system optimization and troubleshooting and filling-in the respective commissioning documentation and protocols
  • Participation in the walk-downs for Turnover from construction to commissioning, identifying open items that prevent system start-up.
  • Preparation of the site for the electrical team to plan ahead for site works.
  • Report to the Lead Electrical Commissioning Engineer for this project.
  • At least 7 years working experience in power stations Electrical (MV/LV and I&C) Commissioning activities with demonstrable experience in a leading role in projects of similar relevance as an Electrical Technician.

  • Support commissioning activities including plant start-up, shutdown, functional testing, and performance testing.
  • Assist with fault finding and troubleshooting of process and control system issues during commissioning.
  • Carry out plant walkdowns and verify field equipment operation against DCS indications.
  • Work closely with the commissioning team to execute commissioning procedures and test documentation.
  • Record operational data, test results, and commissioning observations accurately.
  • Ensure all activities are completed in accordance with site health, safety, and environmental requirements.
