Astute’s Power team are looking to recruit a Outage QA/QC Engineer on a 3 week outage in Cheshire starting in March 2026. The position will be on days only, working 12 hours, 7 days a week once in outage.    The Outage QA/QC Engineer roles come with an hourly rate of £40.00. Key skills required for Outage QA/QC Engineer role  
  • Provide QA/QC oversight during vessel boxing-up activities, ensuring correct gasket installation, bolting procedures, torquing, and final closure compliance.
  • Monitor and inspect valve welding activities, confirming adherence to approved WPS/PQR, material traceability, welder qualifications, and NDT requirements.
  • Oversee welding works, ensuring compliance with welding procedures, pre/post-weld heat treatment requirements, and inspection hold points.
  • Oversee valve overhaul activities, verifying inspection records, component replacement, pressure testing, and correct reassembly/ installation.
  • Ensure all quality documentation, ITPs, weld records, NDT reports, and test certificates are completed and compiled accurately.
  • Liaise with site management, contractors, and client representatives on quality matters.
  • Raise and manage NCRs where required and ensure close-out of quality issues.
  • Maintain a strong focus on safety, compliance, and outage schedule requirements.
  • Must have p roven experience in QA/QC within power generation, heavy industry, or similar environments.
  • Must have s trong knowledge of welding standards, pressure systems, and mechanical inspection practices.
  • Ideally hold CSWIP or equivalent welding inspection certificate.

Astute's Power Team are currently recruiting for Plater to join the EPC Contractor on the new build OCGT plant based in Lincolnshire on a 4 months contract.

The Plater position comes with a flat hourly rate from £28.00 to £30.00 CIS Role responsibilities and key skills for the role:

• Carry out the fabrication, modification and installation of steelwork, brackets, supports, access platforms and mechanical components in accordance with engineering drawings and site requirements.

• Close out mechanical and structural punch list items, ensuring all works are completed safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.

• Interpret engineering drawings, fabrication details and technical specifications to support installation, repair and maintenance activities.

• Assist with the fitting, alignment and installation of mechanical equipment, pipework supports, steel structures and associated plant systems.

• Undertake repair, maintenance and refurbishment activities on power generation assets, including Coal, Gas Turbine (GT), Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) and other industrial plant environments.

• Work closely with welders, mechanical fitters, supervisors and construction teams to ensure the successful delivery of outage, maintenance and new-build construction projects.

Mechanical Commissioning Technician

Astute's Power Team are currently recruiting for 2x Mechanical Commissioning Technicians to join the EPC Contractor on a new build Waste to Energy facility based in Cheshire through all stages of Commissioning to handover.

The Mechanical Commissioning Technician roles come with a day rate from £400.00 to £450.00 (Outside IR35). Role responsibilities and key skills for the role:
  • Support the mechanical commissioning of plant systems including boilers, turbines, pumps, valves, and associated balance of plant equipment
  • Carry out pre-commissioning activities such as flushing, pressure testing, leak checks, and mechanical completion inspections
  • Execute commissioning test procedures in line with method statements, risk assessments, and OEM guidelines
  • Assist in the inspection, alignment, and functional testing of rotating equipment (e.g. pumps, fans, conveyors)
  • Identify and report mechanical defects, non-conformances, and punch list items, ensuring timely resolution
  • Work closely with commissioning engineers and other disciplines to ensure systems are handed over safely and efficiently
  • Interpret P&IDs, mechanical drawings, and technical documentation to support commissioning activities
  • Participate in system walkdowns, tagging, and verification of mechanical completion status
  • Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with site HSE procedures and permit-to-work systems
  • Provide hands-on support during initial plant start-up, troubleshooting mechanical issues and optimising performance
