Mechanical Craftsman

Astute’s power team are looking for a Mechanical Technician / Mechanical Craftsperson to a large Energy from Waste plant located in Kent, South East England. This plant can produce up to 45MW of Power by processing up to 550,000 tonnes of waste per year, usually destined for landfill.  As a Mechanical Craftsperson you’ll be responsible for all reactive & preventative maintenance across a variety of critical equipment including fluidised bed boilers, heat exchangers, conveyors, pumps, gearboxes and associated plant. This is a permanent position which is offering a competitive starting salary plus bonus, overtime, call out payments & benefits package.                   Responsibilities and duties Reporting to the Maintenance Team Leader, as a Mechanical Technician you will be responsible for:
  • Fault finding and maintaining mechanical assets including pumps, gearboxes, valves, etc.
  • Working in line with maintenance techniques and best practices
  • Assisting in plant developments and projects
  • Supervising and setting to work on site contractors
  • Maintaining accurate maintenance records on the site CMMS including creating work packs and reporting on works carried out
  • Assist in outage planning, scheduling and coordination
  • Ensure appropriate levels of stock / spares are available
  • Involved in continuous improvement activities, plant inspections and fault investigation work
  • Liaise with the operations team to ensure plant availability
  • Taking part in emergency call outs / off duty cover.
    Professional qualifications We are looking for someone with the following:
  • A relevant technical qualification such as a C&G / NVQ / ONC / HNC in mechanical engineering or a similar discipline
  • At least 5 years of hands-on maintenance experience with mechanical systems including steam systems, valves, pumps, rotating equipment, compressors, gearboxes, cranes etc
  • Practical knowledge of process plant and equipment gained in a heavy engineering environment such as power generation, petrochemical, steel works, CHP plant, paper mill etc. Royal Navy Marine Engineers will also be considered.

Engineering Manager

Astute's Power Team are working looking for an Engineering / Maintenance Manager for a state of the art CCGT Power Station in South Lincolnshire. This station has a generating capacity of over 800MW comprised of two gas turbines and one steam turbine. As the Engineering Manager you will be responsible for the day to day maintenance & longer term maintenance strategy, focusing on maximising plant availability & reliability.   • Developing and managing the full maintenance strategy for the site
  • Managing the Asset Criticality register, planning outages and overseeing the unplanned outages / shutdowns
  • Optimizing processes including planning, scheduling and execution activities to increase maintenance plant availability
  • Overseeing the PPSR legislation on site and ensuring full adherence to H&S and legislation
  • Lead the condition monitoring program
  • Assist with the development of QA systems and managing KPI’s
  • Manage third party agreements & contracts
      Professional qualifications We are looking for someone with the following:
  • Ideally qualified with a HNC or Degree in a relevant Engineering field
  • IOSH or NEBOSH or similar Health & Safety qualification
      Personal skills The Engineering Manager would suit someone with:
  • At least 5 years experience working on a Thermal Power Station or similar such as CCGT, Coal, Biomass, Waste to Energy, Cogeneration etc – similar Heavy Industry will also be relevant such as Petrochemical, Refineries etc
  • Proven experience in supervising & leading multi-disciplined maintenance teams and delivering an effective maintenance strategy
  • Full knowledge of PSSR, LOLER, PUWER and other relevant legislation such as BS PAS 55, ISO etc
  • Budget, P&L and Contract management experience
