Mechanical Field Service Engineer – Heavy Industry Essex Circa £40,000 + overtime + van + laptop+ phone

 

Introduction…

We are actively recruiting for a Mechanical Field Service Engineer to join a leading serving company who operate within various sectors including Power Stations, CHP Plants, Utilities, FMCG, Petrochemical and many more to deliver maintenance, resources, technical support and repairs.

This is a field based position covering Essex and South East parts of London. You may also be required to travel further afield within the UK as they grow their client base.

 

Role & Responsibilities

As a Mechanical Field Service Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Carrying out pre-planned and reactive maintenance on mechanical assets including turbines, pumps, gearboxes, conveyors, etc.
  • Providing engineering solutions when immediate spares aren't available (retrofitting, reverse engineering or modifying equipment)
  • Working in line with maintenance techniques and best practices complying with Health and Safety regulations
  • Respond to reactive maintenance call outs
  • Maintaining accurate maintenance and inspection logs up to date
  • Assist in outage planning, scheduling and coordination
  • Supervising contracted labour when on site

 

Skills & Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate with the following knowledge / qualifications:

  • Time Served Apprenticeship in a Mechanical Engineering field
  • Strong experience working with rotating equipment such as Steam Turbines, Gas Turbines and associated equipment
  • Experience working in a heavy process environment such as a power station, refinery, chemical plant or paper mill.
  • As this is a field based role, a full UK driving licence is a necessity

We are looking for a Weighbridge Operative to join the team, on nights, as part of their operations department. As Weighbridge Operative you will be responsible for managing site access and ensuring all incoming deliveries are accurately recorded as per contracts and environmental permits. This is a week on week off rotation, covering 12 hour shifts Sunday night through to Thursday night. With their existing site already in commercial operation, and a new facility under construction next door, this is an exciting opportunity to join a leading sector employer. Responsibilities and duties of the Security and Weighbridge Operative role: Reporting to the Process Engineer, you will be responsible for:
  • Maintain the health, safety, and security standards across the site
  • Ensure full site compliance with environmental legislation and regulations
  • Manage plant and equipment operations, including weighbridge inspections and defect reporting
  • Oversee and control all weighbridge movements from start to finish
  • Maintain accurate waste input records, consumable delivery logs, daily site diaries, and all required Weighbridge documentation in line with company procedures
  • Coordinate the site induction process, including issuing and managing site access cards
  • Conduct site inductions for contractors, delivery drivers, and visitors
  • Manage internal and external communications and associated documentation
  • Demonstrate flexibility to meet operational requirements as needed

  • It would be advantageous to have completed an engineering apprenticeship

Astute's Power Team are working with a large Biomass facility located in Northumberland and are recruiting for a Project Engineer to join their Maintenance Department. In this new position, as Project Engineer, you will be responsible for managing the planning and delivery of multi-discipline projects from implementation through to completion. This would include supporting with the annual outages, plant upgrades, improvements and efficiency changes on site. Responsibilities and duties of the Project Engineer role: As Project Engineer, reporting to the Plant Manager, you will be responsible for:
  • Manage multi-disciplinary projects from implementation through to successful completion.
  • Develop, plan, schedule, coordinate, and monitor all phases of project activity.
  • Coordinate project tasks while assessing risks to plant operations and advising the site management team of any potential impacts.
  • Support the design phase by identifying, highlighting, and escalating operational concerns related to proposed designs.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective project delivery, producing accurate weekly and monthly project status reports.
  • Maintain quality control across all aspects of the project, including planning, scheduling, budget management, team performance, and execution.
  • Review engineering tasks and implement corrective actions where necessary.
  • Ensure full compliance with all Company Policies and Procedures, including (but not limited to) those outlined in the Employment Handbook, Health & Safety Policy, EMS, IMS, Management Guide, and financial/accounting systems. ?  ?  ?  ? 
Professional qualifications We are looking for someone with the following:
  • Apprenticeship trained
  • A relevant technical qualification such as an ONC/HNC/HNC/Degree in an engineering discipline
  • Prince 2 or APMP or similar Project Management qualification would be advantageous
  • Ideally an IOSH or NEBOSH qualification
Personal skills The Project Engineer role would suit someone who:
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a similar position on a power station or similar plant. This could be Energy from Waste, Coal, CCGT, Biomass, CHP or Nuclear. Similar Heavy Process Industries will be considered (Papermill, Refinery, Petrochemical etc)
  • Budget management and project management experience
  • Able to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Familiarity with working on steam systems (PSSR) and relevant legislation such as LOLER & PUWER
