Stores worker – Power Generation Marchwood     Introduction Astute are currently seeking a qualified Stores Operator / Technician with a valid forklift licence to assist with an outage on a power station in Marchwood, Southampton. This role is predominantly working 4 on 4 off 12 hour nights but there is a period of 8 hour days at the start and end of the project.                   Roles & Responsibilities You will be responsible for: 
  • Move inventory and materials across facilities
  • Sort, organize and store inventory in the proper location
  • Report damaged or missing inventory to supervisors
  • Stack and organise large bulk items
  • Accept deliveries and unload from trucks using forklift
  • Wear safety gear and PPE at all times
  • Ensure workspace is free of debris and remove safety hazards from site
  • Work as an active team member to complete team goals
    Skills & Qualifications We are looking for someone with the following:

Project Engineer

Astute are working on behalf of a leading operator of Energy from Waste plants to find a Project Engineer for their largest assets located in the South East of England. The Energy from Waste site in the Kent area has a capacity to process 550,000 tonnes of waste per year, generating 34MW of power for the surrounding area. As a Project Engineer you will be responsible for taking the site lead on all plant & equipment upgrades from conception through to delivery & execution. If you have the relevant experience (please see below) and are looking for a rewarding role in the Power sector, then please apply.                        Responsibilities and duties: Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, typical duties will include:
  • Responsible for the conception, delivery & execution of plant process and equipment upgrade projects on the facility.
  • Carry out risk assessments, tender specifications, and progress reports on projects.
  • Manage, monitor & evaluate third party sub-contractors engaged on site.
  • Support the wider Engineering team with the planning and completion of outages across three waste processing lines and also steam turbine & generator.
  • Coordinate & manage all statutory inspections for lifting & pressure systems covering steam boilers, common systems & auxiliary equipment.
  • Provide technical support on plant issues.
    Professional qualifications We are looking for someone with the following:
  • Qualified to a minimum ONC / HNC in a relevant engineering discipline
  • Project Management / APMP / Prince 2 qualification
  • IOSH or NEBOSH in Health & Safety or similar
    Personal skills The Project Engineer would suit someone who has:
  • Experience working with high pressure steam systems from a similar environment such as Power Station, Refinery, COMAH, Utilities plant etc

Enhanced Technician

Astute’s power team are looking for a Mechanical Technician / Mechanical Craftsperson to a large Energy from Waste plant located in Kent, South East England. This plant can produce up to 45MW of Power by processing up to 550,000 tonnes of waste per year, usually destined for landfill. We are currently recruiting an Enhanced Technician / Senior Operator / Assistant Shift Team Leader /SAP to join the operations department of a large Energy from Waste plant in Kent. The Enhanced Technician will need an adaptable approach and will be responsible for supervising the shift teams ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the plant. The Enhanced Technician will be required, on occasions, to step up to the full Shift Manager role to cover for periods of sickness and holidays.   • Ideally a relevant technical qualification such as a C&G / NVQ / ONC / HNC in an engineering discipline
  • Ideally an IOSH or NEBOSH qualification
  • Ideally qualified as a Senior Authorised Person / SAP working with High Voltage electrical equipment
    Personal skills The Enhanced Technician would suit someone with:
  • At least 5 years’ experience in an operational environment on a power station or heavy process facility with steam raising plant e.g. EFW. biomass, coal, utilities etc.
  • Ex-Military Engineers with management/leadership experience will also be considered - Navy, REME, RAF, RFA etc
  • Experience with Electrical Safety at Work such as HV Switching, Earthing & Isolations

  • Ideally a degree in Mechanical Engineering working towards or having already achieved chartership.
  • BOAS certified would be advantageous
  • IOSH or NEBOSH or similar in Health & Safety would be advantageous
    Personal skills The Utilities Manager role would suit someone who:
  • At least five years operations experience on a steam raising plant, in a similar heavy industrial setting such as power generation, CHP, refineries etc.
  • Able to prioritise and coordinate work activities based on operational needs.
  • Ability to gain technical knowledge to support safe and efficient work practices.
  • Proven experience delivering an engineering / operations strategy, with budgetary and project experience.
