Responsibilities and duties of the Planning and Environmental Consultant role

Reporting to the Planning Director, you will:

• Provide technical leadership on planning and environmental projects, ensuring feasibility, compliance, and alignment with project goals.
• Manage planning applications, environmental assessments, budgets, and resources across multiple projects.
• Mentor and support junior consultants, reviewing and developing their technical work.
• Keep abreast of planning policy and environmental regulations, advocating for policies that support renewable energy.
• Produce and review high-quality planning and environmental reports, ensuring they are client-ready.
• Use software such as GIS, Resoft Windfarm, AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Photoshop to create engaging project outputs.
• Build strong client relationships through clear, professional, and proactive communication.
• Contribute to business development by identifying opportunities and helping clients overcome challenges.

Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

• A degree in Town Planning, Environmental Planning, Environmental Science, or related discipline (RTPI or IEMA membership desirable).
• Strong technical knowledge of UK planning and environmental legislation, particularly in renewable energy.
• Demonstrable experience of successfully managing planning applications and environmental assessments.
• Proficiency in relevant software tools (GIS, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Photoshop).

• Build and manage the document control process, including filing systems, engineering drawings, and document registers.
• Ensure compliance with ISO systems and maintain accurate, up-to-date records.
• Issue and receive project documentation and drawings to/from customers and suppliers.
• Collate and deliver O&M documentation packs to customers at project handover.

• Lead technical responses for project tenders related to marine and subsea construction activities for permanent floating structures.
• Manage projects based on type and scale under the supervision of the Head of Projects.
• Deliver engineering deliverables for specific projects independently or in conjunction with internal and external resources.
• Develop operational procedures for offshore utilization, including step-by-step methodologies, rigging arrangements, equipment requirements, and lifting plans for marine and subsea construction activities associated with moorings and SURF.

• A degree in an Engineering discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in marine or subsea construction (Moorings/SURF) for the energy industry, including oil and gas or renewables sectors.
• Experience in the design and installation of permanent mooring systems for units such as FPSOs, FSOs, FSUs, FWTs, CALM buoys, etc.
• Experience in developing offshore operational procedures for installation and subsea construction projects.
• Knowledge of Orcaflex is advantageous.

• Develop onshore wind, battery, and hybrid energy projects, including other renewable technologies.
• Engage and manage consultants and review expert studies and impact assessments for accuracy and completeness.
