This role is due to commence from February onwards. The Lead Mechanical Commissioning Engineer will come with a day rate from £500.00 to £600.00.     Key skills and responsibilities: 
  • Lead and coordinate all mechanical commissioning activities across boilers, turbines, flue gas treatment, fuel handling, cooling systems, and balance-of-plant equipment.

  • Develop and manage the mechanical commissioning schedule, ensuring alignment with the overall EPCM commissioning and start-up plan.

  • Review, verify, and approve commissioning procedures, method statements, inspection test plans (ITPs), and vendor documentation.

  • Oversee mechanical system energisation, functional testing, flushing, pressure testing, rotation checks, and performance validation.

  • Direct and supervise commissioning technicians, subcontractors, and vendor representatives to ensure safe and efficient execution of all commissioning tasks.

The SAP role comes with a day rate of £600.00.             Key skills  
  • Implement procedures to ensure Safety from the System and from the test equipment as dictated by the test programme and consulting, as necessary, with Control Persons of other Systems to agree any actions which may be required to maintain Safety from the System.
  • Correctly implementing specified procedures for releasing Plant and Apparatus for work or testing and for ensuring that all safety precautions which achieve Safety from the System are in place.
  • Obtain the agreement of the Control Person to the release of Plant and Apparatus.
  • Confirm through the Control Person that safety precautions at remote locations are complete.
  • Check with the Control Person to confirm that the safety precautions which have been taken are suitable and sufficient for the work or testing to be done.
  • Instruct Authorised Persons to carry out the necessary operations to establish safety precautions which achieve Safety from the System.
  • Decide whether the work to be done under a Permit for Work or Limited Work Certificate.
  • Issue the Safety Document together with, any associated documents and Keys. Ensure they are placed in safe custody.
  • Cancel or suspend Safety Documentation as required.

Astute’s Power Team is partnered with the End-Client for their new build Waste to Energy facility based in the North East of England to recruit a SHEQ Manager on a 3 year contract basis from the initial Construction phase through to the handover of the project. The SHEQ Manager position comes with a day rate from £550.00 to £600.00 (Outside  Role responsibilities and key skills for the role:  
  • Auditing, reporting, reviewing the Construction Phase Plan prepared by the CSC.
  • Holding regular meetings with the CSC’s Project Manager as well as the CSC’s HSE Manager to review ongoing health, safety and environment matters.
  • Ensures that all Client requirements under the CDM Regulations are fulfilled,
  • Perform regular Audits on the HSE management systems and guides the CSC in compliance with the Contractor’s HSE principles.
  • Undertake audits of the CSC quality assurance and quality control systems and administer the discharge of the Environmental Permit improvement and pre-optional conditions. 
  • Support the SHEQS Manager (Capital Projects) in developing / implementing the strategy for the safe delivery of capital projects.
  • Developing and ensuring the effective implementation of client health and safety plan for the Waste to Energy Project.
  • Ensuring the correct health and safety requirements are specified in tender packages and contracts.
  • Provide support to the tender review and contract award process on all capital projects.
  • Ensure the Principal Designer has developed an effective pre-construction phase plan (PCPP) and is maintaining the Pre-Construction Information, residual risk register and health and safety file throughout the construction phase.

  • Undertake COMET investigations for all serious incidents on the project.
