Job Responsibilities                                               Your specific duties as a Drafter IV will include:   
  • Job Title: Drafter IV 
  • Location: Fridley, MN
  • Pay Rate: $30-33/HR, based on experience
  • Length: 12-month contract *eligible to extend/convert
  • Schedule:  HYBRID. The work schedule is Monday-Friday with a flexible start and end time working 40 hours.
  • Prepare detailed working diagrams of machinery and mechanical devices, including dimensions, fastening methods, and other engineering information.
 Possesses technical skills, including a knowledge of design techniques and blueprint reading for electrical documentation, electrical panel layout, electrical schematic design, PLC I/O drawings
  • Review and approve detailed design drawings and specifications for mechanical equipment, dies, tools, and controls, using computer-assisted drafting (CAD) equipment
  • Instruct staff to design, lay out, or detail components and systems and to resolve design or other problems
  • Review and approve mathematical formulas to develop and design detailed specifications for components or machinery using computer-assisted equipment.
  • Review and approve dimensions of materials to be used and assign numbers to the materials.
  • Approve schematic, orthographic, or angle views to depict functional relationships of components, assemblies, systems, and machines Modify and revise designs to correct operating deficiencies or to reduce production problems
  • Review and analyze specifications, sketches, drawings, ideas, and related data to assess factors affecting component designs and the procedures and instructions to be followed
  • Act as subject matter expert to clients and review schematics and answer questions pertaining to installation of systems.
Job Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 8-10 years’ experience required
  • Exercises independent judgment with little to no direction from supervisor
  • Creativity, verbal and written communication skills, analytical and problem-solving ability (Required)
  • Team player and detail oriented (Required)
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills necessary to provide support and constructive performance feedback (Required)
  • Strong knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models (Typically required)
  • Strong knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology (Typically required)
  • Strong knowledge of relevant computer application, such as CADD (Computer Aided Design and Drafting; Typically required)
  • Must have minimum 5-8yrs CREO 7 (or higher) Schematic/Cabling experience.
  • Windchill experience is also required.

  • Be responsible for the design of all low voltage (LV) wiring harnesses including schematics, bill of material, component selection, and wire harness prints. You will cover from clean sheet of paper through virtual development, testing/sign-off and manufacturing launch for Scout all-electric pick-up and rugged SUVs.
  • Work with Purchasing and Finance counterparts to develop technical specifications in support of the quoting and sourcing process for harnesses and components under your control.
  • Work with Cariad, key VW Group module owners, and suppliers to define and release all LV wire harnesses under your control.
  • Be part of a diverse team fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture, promoting continuous learning and professional development among team members.
  • Perform virtual and physical verification testing, including field testing.
  • Ensure designs conform to safety standards and U.S. government regulations.
  • Proactively stay attuned to consumer experience and propose system improvements accordingly.
  • Contribute to the design of production facilities for Scout trucks & SUVs.
  • Manage supplier resources efficiently to deliver wire harness designs that meet cost, timing, and quality targets.
What you’ll bring  We expect all Scouts to have integrity, curiosity, resourcefulness, and strive to exhibit a positive attitude, as well as a growth mindset.   • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, systems engineering, or a relevant field.
  • 5+ years of experience in electrical wire harness design and release, and relevant automotive assignments, covering all phases of product development (design, test, and launch).
  • Strong technical skills and expertise in wire harness component design and release, employing a six-sigma approach to engineering design and problem-solving.
  • Familiarity with computer-aided engineering (CAE) or direct experience in this field.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with individuals at all organizational levels.
