Personal vehicle may be driven w/ mileage reimbursed Job Responsibilities                                               Your specific duties as a Sr. Protection and Controls Engineer will include:  
  • The Senior Engineer manages work in engineering areas of specialization, with minimal supervision.
  • The Senior Engineer is expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently, with guidance limited to unusual or complex projects or issues.
  • Workers in the Senior Engineer position are fully competent in the use of concepts and procedures.
  • The Senior Engineer identifies problems, develops solutions and takes action to resolve.
  • Responsible for the design of protection and control relaying applications for substations (new and existing) with a specific focus on Protection Settings and SCADA Settings.
  • Design projects range from routine equipment modifications and installations to the complete design of new transmission facilities.
  • This work requires an understanding of power systems, transformers, protective relaying, and electrical engineering principles.
  • Involved in the development and review of designs for high voltage substations at voltages of 15kV, 44kV, 69kV, 100kV, 130kV, 230kV and 345kV.
  • Additionally, expected to develop or possess expertise in protective relay settings calculations and analysis based on current and evolving standards (IEEE, NERC, etc.).
  • Must be able to manage multiple projects in various stages of design so as to meet project schedule deadlines; provide design support to field personnel during project implementation; develop and maintain sufficient level of expertise in use of CAD software for efficient production of engineering work; and collaborate in a team environment to spread knowledge and to produce the best quality product possible.
  • Coordinates work to manage multiple projects simultaneously to ensure timely release of engineering designs.
  • Utilizes a variety of tools and techniques to complete an engineering design, including current design specifications, pertinent code manuals, computer aided design/drafting software, and other reference sources.
  • Produces engineering release packages consisting of pertinent drawings and bills of material.
  • Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis, and resolution of problems of increasing scope and complexity in both inside as well as outside the scope of typical responsibility.
  • Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities; decisions may affect the operations or results of the work group and may have some impact on major projects or department results.
  • Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches related to defined problems and analysis of increasing scope and complexity.
  • Conducts engineering and related studies; completes non-routine engineering projects with minimal oversight with the ability to independently manage project schedules and interfaces; competent to design, operate and maintain systems with moderate impact on existing systems.
  • Possesses and applies the fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures; proficient in technical and analytical competencies necessary to handle assignments of increasing complexity.

Job Requirements

  • 2- 6 years of relevant working experience in Electrical Engineering. 
  • Knowledge of: National Electrical Code (NFPA 70); Electrical power distribution components and systems.
  • Familiar with Schneider Electric EcoStruxure Power Monitoring Expert
  • Demonstrated ability to: effectively communicate ideas to gain consensus from individuals or teams; Demonstrate technical proficiency, with expertise on some topics, within the electrical engineering field, balance multiple projects simultaneously; comprehend technical drawings and specifications; plan and execute special projects and reporting; work well in a collaborative environment.
