Duties and Responsibilities for Certified Wood Grader:

  • Must have thorough knowledge of PLIB, WCLIB and WWPA grade rules as applied to company product line.
  • If not previously certified by an accredited agency, candidate must become a certified lumber grader within 1 year
  • Must know all grade marks and trim marks.
  • Must be able to recognize different species of wood.
  • Must know and recognize minimum and maximum lumber sizes for rough and surfaced lumber according to grade and company standards.
  • Must maintain a 95% grade accuracy by company and Bureau standards.
  • Must communicate and work closely with Planerman to insure good manufacturing quality of lumber.
  • Must stay up to date with lumber price sheet and trim and grade accordingly.
  • When on pull chain, make sure the loads are of the correct piece count before sending them out.
  • Pull lumber off the pull chain into the proper loads by length and grade
  • Make sure stamps are legible and correct as to grade and condition.
  • Grade and stamp all un-graded boards that are on chain.
  • Must check lumber sizes at start of shift and at various times during shift.
  • Must change Lucidyne Computer for change of runs in office.
  • Start trimmer and related equipment at start of shift and after breaks.

Skills and Qualifications for Certified Wood Grader:

  • Must have working knowledge of manufacturing processes.
