Astute's Renewables Team are currently recruiting a Technical Manager to lead and coordinate the design function across a portfolio of renewable energy projects. You will provide technical oversight, ensure compliance with grid connection requirements, and act as the primary liaison between internal design teams, consultants, and external stakeholders including Distribution Network Operators (DNOs), ICPs, and regulatory bodies on a 12 months contract basis with an immediate start.
The day rate for the Technical Manager is from £550.00 to £650.00 per day outside of IR35. Role responsibilities and key skills for the role:Oversee and coordinate all technical design activities across multiple renewable energy projects (solar PV, wind, BESS, hybrid systems).
Manage internal and external design teams (e.g., electrical, civil, structural, grid, and SCADA engineers).
Act as the primary technical interface with DNOs, National Grid, and third-party ICPs, ensuring timely and accurate grid connection applications and approvals.
Review, challenge, and approve design deliverables including SLDs, load flow studies, G99/G100 submissions, and cable layouts.
Ensure all designs meet regulatory standards (e.g., G99, ENA ER, BS/IEC standards) and project requirements.
Lead design reviews and HAZID/HAZOP workshops during pre-construction and construction phases.

The Electrician positions come with an hourly rate from £22.00 to £23.00 per hour. Role responsibilities and key skills for the role:Carry out installation, maintenance, and commissioning of electrical systems on a large-scale waste-to-energy construction project
Interpret and work from electrical drawings, schematics, and technical documents to ensure accurate installations
Install containment systems (tray, basket, conduit, trunking) and wire circuits in line with project specifications
Perform electrical testing and inspection in accordance with current regulations and site procedures
Ensure all work complies with the latest IET Wiring Regulations (18th Edition)
Work collaboratively with other trades and contractors on-site to maintain project timelines and safety standards
Adhere strictly to site health and safety protocols, including RAMS and permit-to-work systems

The day rate for the 132KV Senior Authorised Person is from £550.00 to £650.00 per day outside of IR35. Role responsibilities and key skills for the role:Act as the SAP for 132kV systems under company and DNO/IDNO authorisation.
Carry out switching operations, issue safety documents (PTW, SFT, LOA), and ensure all HV works are executed safely.
Supervise and coordinate HV commissioning activities, including protection testing, cable terminations, and system energisation.
Liaise with project managers, design engineers, and client representatives to ensure HV milestones are achieved.
Ensure all work is carried out in line with statutory regulations, industry standards, and internal HSEQ policies.
Maintain up-to-date HV records, test results, and safety documentation.
Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers and site operatives.
Lead fault-finding and diagnostics where required
Current and valid SAP authorisation up to 132kV (from a DNO, IDNO, or reputable private network).

The Electrician positions come with an hourly rate of £24.00 per hour. Role responsibilities and key skills for the role:Perform electrical testing and commissioning of LV and MV cabling systems associated with Balance of Plant (BoP) infrastructure.
Conduct insulation resistance testing (IR), continuity checks, polarity tests, and phase rotation verification on power and control cables.
Interpret single-line diagrams, wiring schematics, and cable schedules to verify correct installation.
Ensure all cable terminations, joints, and connections meet industry standards and project specifications.
Document test results clearly and accurately in line with QA/QC protocols.
Coordinate with installation teams, supervisors, and commissioning engineers to troubleshoot faults or non-conformities.
Verify correct cable routing, glanding, and tagging across BoP systems (e.g., transformers, switchgear, MCCs, and auxiliary equipment).
Follow lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) and site safety procedures at all times.
Use appropriate testing tools (megger, multimeter, phase testers, etc.) and ensure they are calibrated and in good condition.
