Commissioning Shift Operator Locations - Leicestershire Duration - 3 months Immediate start Day rate - £450.00 to £500.00 The Role We are currently recruiting for a Commissioning Shift Operator to join a fast paced commissioning team on the Waste to Energy facility based in Berkshire. Our client have several live projects within the energy sector in the UK and overseas, so there may be an opportunity to work across more projects with them. Role Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrates leadership and commitment to HSEQ. Actively encourages and leads this for the project.
  • Ensures that all relevant HSEQ requirements are incorporated into area of responsibility and that, in consultation with site management, HSE and commissioning team, HSE hazards are eliminated or mitigated to the extent practicable
  • Ensures that risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) are reviewed with regards to HSE requirements and that work is carried out in accordance with the RAMS
  • Is responsible for the safety and HSE performance of all personnel under his control, and for stopping work where this might be compromised
  • Prepares and issues Permits to Work and system isolations for works within the shift, Mechanical, Process and Electrical (HV and LV preferable SAP authorization)
  • Ensures that works within area of responsibility are executed in accordance with the contract and conform with project time requirements
  • Independently operates, monitors and maintains systems according to the scope of responsibility, in the control room and on site
  • Responsible to update and maintain shift logs and maintenance regimes
  • Optimizes processes in collaboration with our clients Commissioning Team.
  • Supervises both the client shift personnel and the work performed by suppliers during operation
  • Executes hands on training with the client personnel
  • Liaises and coordinates with other project team members, in particular the Commissioning Manager and Commissioning Lead Engineers
  • Participates in regular control tours throughout the plant according to our clients site tour protocol
  • Reports any variations and issues to the Commissioning Manager
  • Delivers Lessons Learned and feedback for current and future projects
  • Keeps the Commissioning Manager / Site Manager informed of all site related activities
Skills and job specifics:
  • Mechanical/Electrical Occupation, Technician.
  • Experienced as a leader in Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ) management and has knowledge of relevant HSEQ legal requirements
  • Must have Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) or equivalent
  • BOP experience
  • Valid Safety Contractors Certificate (SCC) or equivalent
  • Experience Operating and leading a shift team on large thermal power plants
  • DCS system knowledge
  • Experience working for the EPC across Power projects is desirable.

Astute’s EPC Power team is partnering with a leading EPC Contractor within the UK Power Industry to recruit a Multi Skilled Operative on a 4 months contract basis for their OCGT plant based in Stewartby, Bedfordshire.

 

The Multi Skilled Operative position come with an hourly rate from £13.00 to £16.00 per hour. The role is a CIS position.

 

 

Key skills and responsibilities: 

  • Support the tradespeople on site by moving goods, cleaning machinery, and coordinating the works on site.
  • Collecting items from the warehouse, plus preparing and completing warehouse orders for delivery or pickup.
  • Prepare the construction site for scaffolding and temporary works if and when required.
  • Be on hand to assist to warehouse team when required for specific operative works.

  • Lead site-based construction activities for an Energy from Waste facility, ensuring compliance with programme, budget, and quality targets.
  • Manage and coordinate multiple contractors and disciplines across civil, mechanical, and electrical scopes specific to EfW technologies (e.g., incinerators, flue gas treatment, turbines).
  • Apply deep knowledge of EfW processes (e.g., thermal treatment, energy recovery, emissions systems) to oversee technical installation and sequencing.

The DSC Contract Operator position comes with a day rate from £350.00 to £400.00 per day outside of IR35. Role responsibilities and key skills for the role:  
  • Operate and monitor the plant via the Distributed Control System (DCS) from the central control room.

  • Ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the facility, including waste combustion, steam generation, and electricity production.

  • Maintain optimal combustion conditions and adjust plant parameters to ensure stable and efficient performance.

  • Identify and respond promptly to alarms, faults, and abnormal conditions using the DCS.

As Mechanical Commissioning Engineer, you will bring demonstrable commissioning experience and practical skills to the commissioning team. Working closely with the Commissioning Manager, you will be responsible for planning, executing and documenting of commissioning and handover activities on the project and programme of works in a safe manner, fully in accordance with company processes, systems, procedures and specifications. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Working in collaboration with the construction team, ensuring that mechanical commissioning activities are planned safely and to required quality standards and specifications
  • Providing appropriate support throughout the commissioning phase of the project
  • Updating of commissioning documentation including site reports and assisting with O&M manuals
  • Carrying out and recording of all commissioning tests
  • Liaising with onsite subcontractors where necessary
  • Reporting to the Commissioning Manager and updating relevant personnel on site progress 
  • Adhered to health and safety regulations and reporting any incidents appropriately.

Also, we are looking for  someone who can drive improvements with the energy recovery, flue gas emissions, and combustion efficiency

The Principal Process Engineer position comes with a day rate from £500.00 per day to £650.00 per day outside of IR35. Role responsibilities and key skills for the role:
  • Act as the technical authority for process engineering on an operational Energy from Waste (EfW) facility.

  • Provide expert input into the thermal process design, combustion systems, and steam/water cycle performance optimisation.

  • Lead root cause analysis and implement improvements for plant performance, efficiency, and reliability.

  • Support day-to-day operational issues with deep process understanding of fluid dynamics, heat transfer, flue gas treatment, and materials handling.

  • Drive improvements in energy recovery, flue gas emissions, and combustion efficiency.

  • Main responsibility will be to work within a multi-disciplined team carrying out Rigging duties as specified. 
  • They are responsible for aligning and anchoring the machinery, attaching loads, controlling the movement of heavy equipment, and ensuring the rigging is safe for use.
  • Working closely with the Health and Safety professionals on site to coordinator planned lifting of heavy equipment.
