Astute’s EPC Power team is partnering with a leading EPC Contractor within the UK Power Industry to recruit a HSE Advisor on a 4 month contract basis for its OCGT plant based in Stewartby, Bedfordshire

 

The HSE Advisor position comes with a day rate of £350.00 to £400.00 per day. 

 

 

Key skills and responsibilities: 

  • The ability to establish a rapport with all levels of management and safety representatives if and when required.
  • Able to carry out effective investigations, audits, inspections and compile reports and recommendations as appropriate.
  • Working closely with the HSE Manager onsite to monitor any findings across the project
  • Work through HSE documentation for Sub-contractors across the project.
  • PC literate with a good level of spreadsheet knowledge.
  • Strong ability to influence others.
  • Ability to understand the key issues in complex situations.
  • Ability to work to deadlines, prioritize workload and meet targets.
  • NEBOSH Occupational Health and Safety Qualification
  • Essential for this role if for someone to have vast experience with electrical packages for power stations i.e., overseen electrical scope of works.
  • CDM knowledge is an essential requirement for this role. A clear understanding of CDM to be able practically use this knowledge if and when required.

The Mechanical Fitter position comes with a flat hourly rate from £26.00 to £30.00 CIS. Role responsibilities and key skills for the role:

• Carry out the installation, maintenance, repair and alignment of mechanical equipment and plant systems in accordance with engineering drawings and project specifications.

• Close out mechanical punch list items, ensuring all outstanding works are completed safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.

• Perform equipment adjustments, repairs, overhauls and assembly activities on pumps, valves, rotating equipment, conveyors and associated mechanical systems.

• Support commissioning, testing and fault-finding activities to ensure mechanical systems are fully operational and ready for handover.

• Read and interpret technical drawings, P&IDs and manufacturer documentation to support installation and maintenance works.

• Demonstrate experience within Power Plant Repair & Maintenance environments (Coal, GT, CCGT) and/or large-scale new-build energy and industrial construction projects.

Astute's Power Team are currently recruiting 2 Electrical Testers to join a Electrical Main Contractor on a new build Waste to Energy facility based in Irvine, Scotland on a 5 months contractor under the CIS scheme.

The Electrician positions come with an hourly rate of £24.00 per hour. Role responsibilities and key skills for the role:
  • Perform electrical testing and commissioning of LV and MV cabling systems associated with Balance of Plant (BoP) infrastructure.

  • Conduct insulation resistance testing (IR), continuity checks, polarity tests, and phase rotation verification on power and control cables.

  • Interpret single-line diagrams, wiring schematics, and cable schedules to verify correct installation.

  • Ensure all cable terminations, joints, and connections meet industry standards and project specifications.

  • Document test results clearly and accurately in line with QA/QC protocols.

  • Coordinate with installation teams, supervisors, and commissioning engineers to troubleshoot faults or non-conformities.

  • Verify correct cable routing, glanding, and tagging across BoP systems (e.g., transformers, switchgear, MCCs, and auxiliary equipment).

  • Follow lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) and site safety procedures at all times.

  • Use appropriate testing tools (megger, multimeter, phase testers, etc.) and ensure they are calibrated and in good condition.

  • Support pre-commissioning and energization activities under the direction of the electrical commissioning manager.

  • Participate in punch-list activities and resolution of deficiencies.

  • Maintain compliance with HSE regulations, electrical standards (e.g., IEC, BS7671), and site-specific quality procedures.

Astute's Power Team are currently recruiting for 4x Commissioning Operators/Control Room Operators to join the EPC Contractor Waste to Energy facility based in Chester, Cheshire.

The Commissioning Operator/Control Room Operator roles come with a day rate from £475.00 to £500.00 (Outside IR35). Role responsibilities and key skills for the role:  
  • Support commissioning activities across Balance of Plant (BoP) systems, including fuel gas systems, water treatment, cooling systems, compressed air, and auxiliary plant.
  • Operate and monitor plant systems from the control room (DCS/SCADA) during pre-commissioning, commissioning, and first gas introduction.
  • Assist with plant start-up, shutdown, and functional testing, ensuring systems are brought online in a safe and controlled manner.
  • Execute commissioning procedures, test plans, and check sheets, ensuring all activities are completed in line with project and OEM requirements.
  • Monitor plant parameters and respond to alarms, supporting fault finding and troubleshooting during dynamic commissioning phases.
  • Coordinate closely with commissioning engineers, OEMs, and field operators to ensure safe and efficient system handover and integration.
  • Support permit-to-work, LOTO, and safety procedures, ensuring compliance with site safety rules during all commissioning activities.

• Close out mechanical and structural punch list items, ensuring all works are completed safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.

• Interpret engineering drawings, fabrication details and technical specifications to support installation, repair and maintenance activities.

• Assist with the fitting, alignment and installation of mechanical equipment, pipework supports, steel structures and associated plant systems.

• Undertake repair, maintenance and refurbishment activities on power generation assets, including Coal, Gas Turbine (GT), Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) and other industrial plant environments.

• Work closely with welders, mechanical fitters, supervisors and construction teams to ensure the successful delivery of outage, maintenance and new-build construction projects.
