132kV Mechanical Fitter – Role Notes

Experience Required

  • Experienced HV/132kV Mechanical Fitter with ideally around 5 years’ experience working in a similar role.
  • Experience working with and assembling HV equipment up to 132kV.
  • Responsible for assembling, testing and preparing HV equipment prior to energisation.
  • Strong practical experience with oxygen and propane, including relevant welding work.
  • Experience carrying out inspections, testing and compliance checks to ensure equipment meets the required standards and regulations.
  • The role is predominantly within private networks/projects, so DNO authorisations are not necessarily required.
  • The focus is heavily experience-based, so strong practical 132kV mechanical experience is more important than a long list of qualifications.
  • Gold Card required.
  • 2391 would be desirable, although this is potentially negotiable depending on experience.
  • 18th Edition is not essential but would be advantageous.

Working Pattern & Location

  • The role involves regular travel and staying away from home, with the majority of work being across the South of England.
  • Candidates will need to attend the company’s Bristol warehouse every Monday morning before travelling to site to collect equipment/materials.
  • Ideally looking for candidates who live within approximately 50–75 miles of Bristol.
  • Monday morning start at the Bristol warehouse is typically around 7:30am.
  • Working hours on site are generally around 6am–6pm, although these hours are not necessarily fixed.

Salary & Benefits

  • £21 per hour.
  • Approximately £43k basic salary based on contracted hours.
  • Overtime package is broadly in line with the HV Jointer role.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be an experienced 132kV Mechanical Fitter with around five years' hands-on experience assembling, testing and preparing HV equipment for energisation.

They should be comfortable working with oxygen/propane and welding, as well as carrying out inspections and ensuring work is fully compliant with relevant standards.

The key priority is strong practical experience at 132kV. Qualifications are beneficial, but the right level of hands-on experience is the main consideration.

Candidates must also be comfortable with regular travel, staying away during the working week and attending the Bristol warehouse every Monday morning.
