  • Provide QA/QC oversight during vessel boxing-up activities, ensuring correct gasket installation, bolting procedures, torquing, and final closure compliance.
  • Monitor and inspect valve welding activities, confirming adherence to approved WPS/PQR, material traceability, welder qualifications, and NDT requirements.
  • Oversee welding works, ensuring compliance with welding procedures, pre/post-weld heat treatment requirements, and inspection hold points.
  • Oversee valve overhaul activities, verifying inspection records, component replacement, pressure testing, and correct reassembly/ installation.
  • Ensure all quality documentation, ITPs, weld records, NDT reports, and test certificates are completed and compiled accurately.
  • Liaise with site management, contractors, and client representatives on quality matters.
  • Raise and manage NCRs where required and ensure close-out of quality issues.
  • Maintain a strong focus on safety, compliance, and outage schedule requirements.
  • Must have p roven experience in QA/QC within power generation, heavy industry, or similar environments.

Astute’s Power team is partnering with a Principal Contractor in the renewable energy sector to recruit a Senior Project Manager with a civils bias for utility-scale solar farm projects on a long-term contract in the South/Southwest of England. The role comes with a negotiable day rate depending on experience. Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the electrical completion and commissioning of three utility-scale solar PV sites
  • Coordinate and supervise electrical subcontractors delivering HV/LV infrastructure including inverters, transformers, switchgear, and cable terminations.
  • Lead electrical testing and commissioning activities, ensuring full compliance with BS 7671, G99/G100 requirements, and client specifications.
  • Work closely with DNOs and ICPs to manage and complete grid connection processes.

Civil and Structural Engineer – Nuclear New Build

Introduction

I have an incredible opportunity for a design focused senior civil engineer with experience of complex reinforced concrete and steel frame structure construction projects to join the team responsible for delivering the challenging nuclear and conventional island portions of one of the largest engineering projects in Europe at Hinkley Point C in Somerset.

 

Roles & Responsibilities

As a Civil Engineer you will be responsible for a variety of tasks to support an extremely busy client project office.

General duties in each case would be expected to include:

Civil engineering

  • Ensuring the consistency of the input data;
  • Producing deliverables such as design hypotheses, methodology and assumption notes, technical specifications, calculation notes, etc.;
  • Developing RC design modifications related to Civil Contractor or Client change requests (specific to Site Base);
  • Justifying the compliance of modifications with Civil Standards (ETC-C, RCC-CW, Eurocodes, CDM) and Nuclear Safety Requirements.
  • Facilitating the construction in coordinating the stakeholders of the projects (Civil detailed design providers, construction teams, project management, client);
  • Interfacing with multidisciplinary teams to assess the impact of the modifications
  • Visiting the construction site to follow up the progress and understand the issues/requests (specific to Site Base);
  • Managing a part of a Nuclear Building after some months in the project;
  • Controlling the detail design notes and drafts from external design offices
  • Maintaining company and customer’s QA procedures in the delivery of the civil design of a nuclear reactor site
  • Working with CAD designers in the preparation of the design drawing and models
  • Writing related technical notes to support delivery
  • Participating in technical communities to support the development of other staff

 

Skills & Qualifications

Whilst previous nuclear project exposure would be a distinct advantage it is not a requirement, and any transferable large complex construction experience will be considered. The civil work design is made on TEKLA, and used as a deliverable directly for construction activities for different tasks.

We are looking for someone with the following attributes:

  • Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in civil engineering
  • Civil engineering design office experience, particularly in the design of industrial reinforced concrete and complex steel frame structures.
  • Detailed design and load analysis
  • Direct Eurocodes experience
