Solar Field Service Technician - East Anglia

Astute’s Renewables team is partnered with an internationally recognised, utility scale solar developer and operator.  We are looking to recruit a Solar Field Service Engineer to join their growing operations and maintenance team in East Anglia and the surrounding areas.  The strategically important Solar Field Service Technician role comes with a basic salary up to £42,000 (higher for HVAPs), on call rota enhanced pay (1 weekend in 5), own van and fuel cards, private health insurance, 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays and more.   • Take primary responsibility for solar plant performance, optimisation of the site and for maintaining equipment availability.
  • Perform pre-planned and reactive maintenance works across their solar farms, including electrical maintenance, solar panel cleaning and HV maintenance (if HV qualified).
  • Effectively help to resolve work tickets and report issues back to your line manager. Compiling reports of completed works.
  • Liaising with internal and external teams, including in-house LV/HV personnel, the grounds team and external subcontractors when required.
  • Providing mentoring and training to junior technicians where required.
  • Taking part in the company’s on-call rota for non-working hours (including Bank Holidays and weekends) – 1 weekend in every 5 for this region (on call allowances).
Professional qualifications We are looking for someone with the following:
  • Experience in industrial or utility scale solar is preferred. However, if no solar experience then an industrial electrician background is of interest.
  • A City and Guilds or NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Electrical Engineering, Installation, Testing & Inspection or similar, electrical course.
  • 18th edition wiring regulations.
  • High Voltage Authorisation would be advantageous but not essential.
  • A full UK driving licence is essential due to remote nature of the sites

Field Service Engineer - EV Chargers

The FSE will be responsible for the commissioning, maintenance and repair of AC Chargers, Rapid DC, Ultra and High Power Charging (HPC) EV Chargers. This role requires hands-on technical expertise, problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in the field. You will ensure that all EV charging stations operate at peak performance and meet the high standards of our company and clients. This role will require someone who is comfortable working in various environments, including outdoor sites and confined spaces. Occasional travel and overnight stays will be required. Job requirements Essential:
  • Level 3 Electro-technical qualification.
  • Familiarity with basic test and measurement equipment such as multimeters and voltage testers.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and repair complex technical issues.

Job responsibilities Commissioning of EV Chargers:
  • Commission and configure Rapid DC, Ultra and HPC EV chargers at client sites.
  • Conduct initial set up and testing to ensure correct operation and compliance with industry standards.
  • Collaborate with the project management and installation teams to ensure seamless integration of charging stations with client infrastructure.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance on EV charging stations to ensure optimal performance and uptime.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues, including electrical, mechanical and software-related problems.
  • Conduct diagnostic tests, firmware updates and calibration of EV chargers as necessary.
  • Replace faulty components and ensure that all repairs are completed in accordance with manufacture guidelines.
Customer Support:
  • Provide on-site technical support and training to clients on the use and operation of EV chargers.
  • Respond to service requests promptly and maintain effective communication with clients to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Document all service activities, including repairs, maintenance and customer interactions in the service management system.
Compliance and Safety:
