Responsibilities and duties of the QA/QC Inspector role   Reporting to the Quality and Engineering Manager, you will:  

Primary Focus: QC, Metrology & ASME Code Compliance
  • Take full ownership of CMM operations (Faro Arm with PolyWorks), including inspection programming and measurement strategy development.
  • Interpret and manipulate 3D CAD data to support dimensional inspection and verification.
  • Act as the business’s ASME Certified Individual, performing final verification of products manufactured under ASME Code UM stamps prior to delivery (formal designation subject to passing ASME competency examination).
  • Carry out goods-in, visual, and mechanical inspections using a wide range of manual metrology equipment.

Secondary Focus: QA Support
  • Support the investigation and resolution of internal, supplier, and customer non-conformances (NCRs).
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI) to ensure quality is embedded from concept through manufacture.
  • Assist Engineering and Production in maintaining full product traceability throughout the manufacturing lifecycle.

  Professional qualifications   We are looking for someone with the following:

Essential
  • Significant experience in Quality / Inspection within a highly regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of CMM inspection, ideally Faro Arms and PolyWorks.
  • Excellent ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, ISIRs and FAIRs.
  • Hands-on metrology experience using verniers, micrometers, height gauges, thread gauges, etc.
  • Strong understanding of ISO 9001 and pressure equipment regulations (PED / AD2000).

Desirable
  • Experience in nuclear or similarly regulated industries.
  • Understanding of welding processes (MIG/TIG) and NDT techniques.
  • Engineering qualification.

  • Lead and support New Product Introduction and Advanced Product Quality Planning activities from feasibility through to volume production, ensuring all milestones and deliverables are achieved on time.

  • Act as a key quality interface within cross-functional project teams, embedding nuclear safety culture and “right first time” principles throughout the programme lifecycle.

  • Compile, review and submit comprehensive PPAP documentation, typically Level 3, ensuring full compliance with customer, regulatory and internal requirements prior to production release.

  • Manage customer, supplier and internal non-conformances, driving timely containment, robust root cause analysis and effective corrective and preventative actions.

  • Lead internal, external and supplier audits, including oversight of Special Processes such as welding and NDE, and conduct Launch Readiness Reviews to confirm manufacturing and supply chain capability.

  • Ensure full product traceability and compliance documentation throughout manufacture, including Lifetime Records, material certification to BS EN 10204 3.1, and CFSI mitigation.

  • Develop, maintain and validate Control Plans across prototype, pre-production and production phases, supported by Run@Rate trials and process capability studies.

  • Collaborate closely with customers and suppliers to resolve quality issues, protect the build process from non-compliant parts and agree compliant disposition routes.

  Professional qualifications   We're looking for someone with the following:
  • Engineering qualification (apprenticeship, HNC or degree) is desirable.
  • Formal training in Quality Management System auditing techniques.

  • Extensive working knowledge of APQP and PPAP within a regulated manufacturing environment.

  • Strong capability in core quality tools including FMEA, MSA and SPC.

  • Proven experience with statistical analysis and process validation techniques.

  • Practical experience applying root cause analysis methodologies such as 8D, 5 Whys and Fishbone diagrams.

  • Strong IT skills, particularly Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, with experience of statistical software such as Minitab being advantageous.

  • Experience or knowledge of Special Processes, particularly welding (MIG/TIG, stainless steel and aluminium alloys) and robotic welding.
