We’re looking for an experienced and motivated professional with:

  • Experience of servicing, maintaining and fault diagnostics on Generators and other critical power equipment

  • An engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or similar)

  • A self-motivated individual with a can-do attitude who is willing to roll up their sleeves

  • Full UK driving license

Field Engineer - Peaking Plants

Job Description: Field Engineer Function Operations Location Southern England (Bracknell, Didcot, Hatfield) Reports to Operations Supervisor Salary Range Competitive (dependent on experience) Purpose of the Role PeakGen is seeking a hands-on and proactive Field Engineer to join our Operations team. This role is critical in ensuring our portfolio of power generation assets operates safely, efficiently, and reliably. You’ll take ownership of sites within your region, carrying out inspections, maintenance, and fault-finding on diesel generator sets, switchgear, transformers, control systems, and fuel infrastructure. You’ll be part of a small, skilled team that keeps PeakGen’s assets ready to deliver in the Balancing Mechanism, Capacity Market, and wholesale trading, contributing directly to the stability of the UK grid. Key Responsibilities Safety, Health & Environment • Lead by example in promoting PeakGen’s zero-harm culture. • Ensure full compliance with HSE legislation, company procedures, and safe systems of work. • Prepare and review Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS). • Maintain a safe and tidy work environment at all times. Operations & Maintenance • Conduct scheduled daily, weekly, and monthly inspections across assigned sites. • Perform planned and reactive maintenance on generators and associated systems. • Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical, and control faults. • Maintain accurate maintenance records and asset data. • Support ongoing asset improvement projects. Performance & Reliability • Monitor site performance, report faults, and analyse failure trends. • Identify and implement reliability improvements and cost-effective solutions. • Support readiness for dispatch events (e.g., Triads, Balancing Mechanism runs). Team & Contractor Management • Supervise contractors, ensuring compliance with PeakGen’s safety and quality standards. • Collaborate with other engineers and the Operations Admin to manage spares and stock levels. • Share technical knowledge and best practice across the wider team. Continuous Improvement • Challenge existing processes to drive efficiency and innovation. • Contribute ideas for asset optimisation and cost savings. • Demonstrate PeakGen’s “right first time” and “one-team” approach. Skills, Knowledge & Experience Essential • Time-served Mechanical or Electrical Engineer (or equivalent proven experience). • Experience maintaining diesel or gas generator sets, rotating equipment, or heavy plant. • Strong understanding of safe systems of work and isolation procedures. • Proven fault-finding and problem-solving skills. • Good communication and teamwork, with the ability to work independently. • IT-literate; experience with maintenance management systems. • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel between sites. Desirable • Experience with generator control and protection systems (e.g., Deep Sea, ComAp). • HV switching authorisation or awareness (training can be provided). • IOSH or equivalent H&S qualification. Responsibilities and duties of the Senior Technical Engineer role Reporting to the Operations Manager you will:
  • Provide onsite technical support to the office, Engineers and clients.
  • Support Service Engineers with fault finding, overhauls, mechanical & electrical faults on site as required to ensure delivery of contracts.
  • Coordinate training and development of Engineers where required/identified.

  • Excellent electrical and mechanical knowledge
  • Prior experience in leading or managing field-service engineering teams.

The Generator Commissioning Engineer role comes with a starting salary of up to £50,000 + benefits.   • Lead and manage generator installation and commissioning projects onsite.
  • Perform generator pre-commissioning, final commissioning, and fault diagnostics.

  • Troubleshoot and repair diesel and gas generators efficiently.
