Assistant Project Engineer

Astute’s Power team is partnering with a leading Biomass site in the UK to recruit an Assistant Project Engineer for its site in Northumberland.     The Assistant Project Engineer role comes with a starting salary of up to £45,000 and a bonus.     If you are degree qualified in a relevant engineering field, and interested in joining a leading biomass site then submit your CV to apply today.                  Responsibilities and duties of the Assistant Project Engineer role Reporting to the Maintenance Manager you will:  
  • Support site engineers in routine operations and emergent issues.
  • Assist with engineering projects aimed at improving safety, reliability, and efficiency.
  • Participate in integrated project teams delivering plant improvement initiatives.
  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of thermal electricity production principles.
  • Contribute to maintenance, inspection, and repair activities.
  • Support the management of health, safety, and environmental performance.
  • Assist in procurement processes, contract management, and supplier coordination.
  • Engage with commercial and strategic development projects.
  • Work with contractors, consultants, and external organisations.
  • Present to senior management and participate in formal briefings.
Professional qualifications We are looking for someone with the following:  
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (minimum 2:1) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • A time-served EITB or NVQ apprenticeship (or equivalent) in a mechanical or electrical field – desirable.
  • Basic understanding of thermal power generation and its core principles.
  • Knowledge of health, safety and environmental standards within engineering environments.
  • Strong data analysis and management skills to support sound decision-making.
  • Familiarity with engineering support functions such as inspection, condition assessment, and project delivery across disciplines (e.g. civil, electrical, mechanical, instrumentation).

  • Passionate about engineering, with curiosity and creativity to solve problems.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Self-motivated and adaptable, demonstrating commitment to safety and high standards.
Salary and benefits of the Assistant Project Engineer role
  • Starting salary of £30,000 - £45,000
  • Benefits package including bonus of us to 10%
