Responsibilities and duties of the Plant Maintenance Engineer role
Reporting to the Lead Commercial Engineer you will:
• Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on mechanical plant equipment including pumps, actuators, pressurisation units, and heat exchangers.
• Attend to reactive maintenance call-outs and restore operations efficiently across a variety of plant assets.
• Undertake mechanical fault finding and carry out effective repairs on commercial non-gas plant components.
• Assist in planning and executing plant upgrade projects, including defining scope of work and on-site implementation.
• Support safe isolation procedures for mechanical and electrical systems prior to maintenance work.
• Collaborate with engineering leads and other internal teams to ensure the smooth operation of heating networks.
• Maintain accurate digital records and work orders within the company’s maintenance management system.
• Participate in a shared on-call rota (approximately one week in four) to support out-of-hours plant emergencies.
• Analyse recurring faults to identify root causes and recommend long-term solutions.
• Actively contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on energy efficiency and network reliability.
Professional qualifications
We are looking for someone with the following:
• 1–2 years of hands-on experience in a commercial plant maintenance role.
• Operational knowledge of commercial gas boilers and associated plantroom equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret P&IDs and mechanical schematics.
• Basic electrical competency and familiarity with safe isolation protocols.
• Possession of a full UK driving licence (valid for at least 12 months).
• Can work an on-call rota (approx.. 1 in 7 weeks)
