I had the privilege of being assigned Andre Brown as my YUPRO business coach in January 2024, shortly after graduating from Year Up. From our very first meeting, Andre left a lasting impression on me. His positive energy, professionalism, confidence, and depth of knowledge were apparent, and I knew I had found a mentor who was not only willing but also excited to help me navigate my professional journey.
One of the things I admire most about Andre is his outgoing and friendly nature. Despite my struggle to come out of my shell and speak up, Andre's enthusiasm encouraged me to actively engage in all our professional development sessions. Whenever I needed assistance or guidance, whether it was regarding a work situation or help with learning resources, Andre was always quick to respond and offer valuable feedback.
Coming from a Vietnamese immigrant family without a background in higher education or corporate jobs, I battled with imposter syndrome and required tremendous coaching and support in this area. Andre's unwavering support and genuine advice never made me feel like I was a burden; instead, he empowered me to overcome my challenges, and insecurities and grow professionally.
A life-changing moment came when my team opened a full-time position, presenting a crucial opportunity for me to secure a permanent role at the amazing company that I work for. Realizing the high stakes of this opportunity, I turned to Andre for interview prep. Through three rounds of rigorous prep sessions, Andre equipped me with the confidence and skills needed to ACE my interviews. The feedback from my interview was nothing short of phenomenal; I was congratulated for my confidence, professionalism, and authenticity, things that ultimately led to my securing the position and beating the competition.
This achievement holds immense significance for me—it's not just a job; it's a life-changing opportunity for me and my family. As a single mother since the age of 19, providing a good life for my daughter, who is on the autism spectrum, and my mother has always been my dream. Now, with this new role, our future is incredibly bright, and I feel empowered to continue growing personally and professionally. Never in my life would I imagine I would be able to obtain this high of an income with the benefits and opportunities to grow that I would have today. Next year I plan on taking my family on our first family vacation. For me, this is a new chapter of my life and only the beginning.
