The Junior mechanical designer Engineer CAD Designer will assist in translating customer ideas and specifications into detailed drawings and 3D models, supporting the manufacturing process. The role involves working closely with more experienced team members to ensure that designs are optimized for production and that all dimensions, tolerances, and finishes are accurately represented. Additionally, the Junior CAD Designer will support product development and learn to identify cost-saving opportunities in design and manufacturing techniques.

Duties and responsibilities for Junior mechanical designer Engineer CAD Designer:
  • Drawing and Design Support:
  • Assist in converting customer requirements into basic fabrication drawings under the guidance of senior designers.
  • Learn and apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles to ensure manufacturability.
  • Help maintain consistency between drawings and actual fabrication/machining processes.

Learning and Development:

  • Develop skills in blueprint reading, interpretation, and reporting.
  • Gain experience in using CAD software (Solidworks or equivalent) to create simple designs.
  • Familiarize yourself with Microsoft Office and other software tools as required.
  • Participate in training to improve communication and technical skills.

Manufacturing and Quality Assistance:

  • Support the programming of automated manufacturing systems with guidance.
  • Assist in inspecting produced items to ensure they meet the drawing specifications.
  • Provide drawing-related information to support Purchasing, Estimating, and Quoting activities.
  • Communicate minor design variations with customers, escalating complex issues to senior team members.
Essential Skills/Qualifications for the Junior mechanical designer Engineer CAD Designer :
  • Basic Blueprint Reading: Understanding of technical drawings and blueprints, with a willingness to learn more.
  • CAD Software Proficiency: Some experience with Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD) programs; familiarity with Solidworks or similar software is a plus.
  • Communication Skills: Basic verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to learn how to effectively convey technical information.
  • Software Skills: Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new software as needed.
Desirable Skills/Qualifications Junior mechanical designer Engineer CAD Designer:
  • Interest in Manufacturing: A basic understanding of manufacturing processes, especially in metal fabrication, is beneficial.
  • Willingness to Learn: An eagerness to learn 
  • Quality Awareness: An interest in quality inspection and root cause analysis, particularly in metal fabrication processes.
  • Hands-on Experience: Any experience with metal fabricating machinery or assembly integration is a plus but not required.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: The ability to interpret technical instructions and handle abstract concepts, with support from senior designers.
