Remote Medical Economics Analyst HealthCare Support is actively seeking a Medical Economics Analyst to fill an opening with one of the nation’s largest managed care organizations. This is a primarily remote role with an in-office expectation once a month outside of training. Daily Responsibilities for Medical Economics Analyst: 
  • The Medical Economics Analyst plays a pivotal role in supporting and advising the Medical Economics team by delving into critical business matters concerning costs, utilization, and revenue across all products within the health plan.
  • Your responsibilities include crafting and refining reports to track product performance and pinpoint the underlying factors driving medical cost trends.
  • By identifying these root causes, you will spearhead innovation efforts by devising tools to monitor trend drivers and offering strategic recommendations to mitigate cost escalations.
  • Additionally, you will construct financial models to assess the financial implications of healthcare management program adjustments or alterations to provider contracts.
Required Qualifications for Medical Economics Analyst: 
  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • 3+ years of experience in healthcare or managed care with experience in Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) and/or Medical Cost Management & Analysis
  • Must have recent managed care or health insurance experience
  • Work experience with SAS and/or SQL where you have created queries, pulled large data sets and performed data manipulations/analysis
  • Advance knowledge with Excel
  • Requires analytical work experience within the healthcare industry (i.e. hospitals, network, ancillary, medical facilities, healthcare vendor, commercial health insurance company, large physician practices, managed care organization, etc.)

  • Acts as the analytic lead for complex clinical analytics projects involving multiple data resources and teams to inform business decisions in clinical, network, value-based payment models, and employer engagement.
  • Understands the strategic direction of the organization and the analytic and reporting requirements to meet departmental needs. Translates business questions and needs into analytics technical requirements including data analytics design, clinical and data specifications, and reporting format.
  • Leads the design and extraction of data from multiple sources. Creates integrated analytic datasets. Performs analytics and summarizes findings to inform business opportunities and address business questions.
  • SHIFT: Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. | There is flexibility here if they need to start their days a little earlier or later
Required Qualifications for the Clinical Analytics Analyst III:
  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • 7+ years of hands-on programming experience using SAS
  • 7+ years of experience in Data Analytics, Informatics, Medical Economics, or other relevant work experience
  • 7+ years of experience performing analysis on large healthcare administrative claims data, EHR/EMR data, or complex relational health care databases with significant experience analyzing medical, pharmacy, and behavioral health claims data
  • 7+ years of hands-on programming experience using SAS
Preferred Qualifications for the Clinical Analytics Analyst III:
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Math, Statistics, Data Science, Economics, Epidemiology, Public Health, or related field
  • Prefers knowledge and working experience of visualization and BI tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI.) with preference given to Tableau experience.
  • Prefers hands-on experience of clinical episode groupers and analytics, preferably with Optum’s Symmetry Suite of Services (Impact Intelligence, ImpactPro, ETG, ERG, PEG, EBM, PRG, etc.) or PROMETHEUS.
  • Prefers knowledge and direct experience of Milliman’s analytics tools such as MedInsight Health Cost Guidelines

  • Identify and assign appropriate codes for diagnoses, procedures and other services rendered, while also validating any Computer Assisted Coded (CAC) assignments for dual coding. Utilizing the Code Base Charge Trigger system (CBCT) and OPTUM 360 EncoderPRO software system for professional surgical services, analyzing and maintaining systems accuracy, validity and meaningfulness for both professional and facility services.
  • Utilizes electronic patient data system and clinical information system (EpicCare) to access patient encounter information.
  • Abstracts and enters clinical data elements as defined by the needs of the organization. Identifies and assigns principal diagnosis and procedure codes, sequencing them as needed for proper Ambulatory Payment Classification (APC), Medicare Severity-Drug Related Group (MS-DRG), All Patients Refined Diagnosis Related Groups (APR-DRG) assignment, utilizing applicable coding conventions.
Required Qualifications Inpatient Facility Medical Coder:
  • !! MUST reside in Washington or Oregon !!
  • MUST have ONE: RHIA, RHIT, or CCS certificate
  • Experience in facility coding
