Lead Data Product Engineer - Hybrid - Full-time

For our direct client near Norwalk, CT, we seek a Lead Data Product Engineer to build the foundation that makes data and AI products possible. In this role, you'll design and maintain the centralized datasets, pipelines, and integrations that connect modern AI-enabled and AI-first systems with the existing tools our business runs on. Partnering with engineering, analytics, and business stakeholders, you'll identify gaps, establish trusted sources of truth, and simplify how data moves across the organization. You'll also be bringing engineering rigor to data and AI workflows through best practices in versioning, testing, observability, and deployment.  Key Responsibilities 
  • Identify gaps in the current data ecosystem and chart a pragmatic path forward 
  • Establish and maintain centralized, well-defined datasets as sources of truth 
  • Map and document end-to-end data models, flows, and dependencies across systems, tools, and products 
  • Build data pipelines using Python, SQL, and orchestration tools (e.g., Prefect) 
  • Design and implement integrations between AI systems and existing systems 
  • Support production AI workflows, ensuring reliability, scalability, and observability 
  • Partner with stakeholders to standardize how data moves across the organization 
  • Implement guardrails for data quality, consistency, and lineage 
  • Introduce best practices around versioning, testing, deployment, and monitoring of production data and AI systems 
Skills and Qualifications 
  • 5+ years of engineering experience focused on data systems and pipelines 
  • Strong proficiency in Python, SQL, and orchestration tools 
  • Experience designing scalable data platforms and turning fragmented data into reliable, centralized datasets, with strong system design and data modeling skills 
  • Ability to design integrations across disparate systems (APIs, databases, third-party platforms) with a clear grasp of end-to-end data flows 
  • Familiarity with data quality, lineage, and observability practices for building resilient production systems 
  • Experience supporting AI/ML workflows in production 
  • Ability to take end-to-end ownership, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders

Our client is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to help build and scale a modern cloud-based data platform from the ground up. This is a high-impact opportunity to join a growing data team with strong executive sponsorship and play a key role in replacing legacy reporting systems with a modern analytics ecosystem.

As a senior individual contributor, you'll help define the architecture, develop scalable data pipelines, and build reliable data models that power business intelligence, analytics, and future AI initiatives. You'll partner closely with engineering, product, and business stakeholders while mentoring junior team members and helping establish best practices across the organization.

Key Responsibilities Modern Data Platform Development
  • Design and build scalable data models using dbt and Snowflake.
  • Develop and maintain ELT pipelines using Fivetran and other modern ingestion tools.
  • Partner with technical leadership on architecture, platform design, and engineering standards.
  • Implement data quality testing, monitoring, documentation, and CI/CD practices.
  • Optimize platform performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.
Data Engineering & Analytics
  • Build trusted datasets that support business intelligence, reporting, and analytics initiatives.
  • Integrate data from multiple operational systems and external data sources.
  • Collaborate with software engineering teams on deployment, infrastructure, and platform integrations.
  • Support future automation and AI-driven data initiatives.
Collaboration & Technical Leadership
  • Work directly with business stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable data solutions.
  • Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, technical guidance, and best practices.
  • Partner with product and engineering teams to prioritize and deliver high-value data products.
Required Qualifications
  • 6+ years of hands-on experience in Data Engineering or Data Platform development.
  • At least 4 years working with modern cloud data platforms such as Snowflake, dbt, or comparable technologies.
  • Strong experience designing and building production-ready data models and ELT pipelines.
  • Deep knowledge of Snowflake, including architecture, performance optimization, and cost management.
  • Experience with dbt, including modeling, testing, documentation, and CI/CD.
  • Strong SQL expertise and Python programming skills.
  • Experience with Git, version control, and CI/CD workflows.
  • Experience integrating data from relational and NoSQL databases, including MongoDB.
  • Experience mentoring engineers or technical team members.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience serving as a senior individual contributor or technical lead on a data engineering team.
  • Experience in healthcare, life sciences, clinical research, or other regulated industries.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and engineering workflows.
  • Experience with Tableau Cloud or other modern BI platforms.
  • Strong understanding of data governance, lineage, and documentation best practices.
  • Experience building externally facing analytics or data products.
