Astute’s Nuclear team is partnering with a large UK defence client to recruit a Cost Management Lead on a 12-month contract (Hybrid) for its Bristol site. The Cost Management Lead role comes with an hourly rate of up to £80.00 per hour (inside of IR35).     Key skills  
  • Significant experience of project estimating and cost management / control techniques and approaches, including estimating, forecasting, performance reporting (i.e. EVM) and quantitative risk analysis etc.
  • Experience of delivering/leading estimating and cost management and control within customer facing projects and programmes for large and technically complex equipment or system delivery contracts.
  • Experience of using, or working alongside, related software tools such as MSP, P6, Active Risk Manager, RiskHive, Deltec Cobra, Safran or Primavera Risk Analyser etc.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to interact successfully at all levels.
  • Experience of implementing / working within project cost & estimating related governance frameworks that align to the Association for Project Management

  • Team manager – managed up to at least 50 people.
  • Knowledge of Design and Nuclear Safety
  • Previous experience in Major projects (nuclear or non-nuclear)
  • Mechanical / Electrical / Civil experience – can have broad experience across all three or specialist in one
  • Negotiation / collaboration skills - deal with external contract partners
  • Able to set tasking / deal with queries, assess quality work of design and safety.
  • Background in Engineering systems and design

  • Significant experience of project planning & scheduling management, control techniques and approaches.
  • Significant experience in the use, administration and database maintenance of scheduling toolsets such as P6 (preferred) and MSP.
  • Comprehensive experience of delivering/leading planning & scheduling management within projects and programmes for large and technically complex equipment or system delivery contracts.

Quantity Surveyor - Nuclear        

Tadley - Berkshire 12 month contract £45-55.00 per hour (Limited Company) outside IR35

Introduction

We are currently recruiting for a Quantity Surveyor to undertake all pre and post contract quantity surveying services for multiple nuclear projects in Berkshire.

 

Roles & Responsibilities

As the Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for:

  • Liaise with the client regarding any commercial discussions.
  • Provide commercial advice to the Project Managers.
  • Advising on a procurement strategy.
  • Preparation and negotiation of all sub-contract contract documentation.
  • Analyse sub-contract tender cost and contract submissions.
  • Managing an early warning process with the client and the sub-contractors.
  • Managing sub-contract monthly payment.
  • Working under NEC4 ECC, TSC and PSC contracts using options A, C &E.

 

 

Skills & Qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

  • Previous experience managing the commercial aspects of nuclear projects from pre to post contract.
  • SC clearance needed.

Principal Underwater Welding Engineer

Astute’s Nuclear team is partnering with a large UK defence client to recruit a Principal Underwater Welding Engineer on a 12-month contract (Hybrid) for its Plymouth site. The Principal Underwater Welding Engineer role comes with an hourly rate of up to £100 per hour (outside of IR35).     Key skills  
  • Working experience of Water welding
  • The applicant must be a British National and be capable of holding NNPI, PSA and Atomic security clearances
  • Able to set tasking / deal with queries, assess quality work of design and safety.
  • Work in conjunction with Weld Quality Management System (ISO 3834-2) to ensure quality practises are abided by.
  • Review wet welding supplier’s documentation and providing answers to technical questions
  • Oversee the development and qualification of new wet welding procedures to AWS D3.6M.
  • Being the department’s representative on the wet welding project – providing technical guidance and consultation.
  • Authoring of technical engineering reports/proposals for bespoke wet welding techniques utilising materials knowledge.

  • Role is site homebased with occasional site visits to Plymouth/Scotland
