Astute’s EPC Power team is partnering with a leading EPCm Contractor within the UK Power Industry to recruit a Lead Mechanical Commissioning Engineer on a 12 months contract basis for their Waste to Energy facility based in the Glasgow area. This role is due to commence from February onwards. The Lead Mechanical Commissioning Engineer will come with a day rate from £500.00 to £600.00.     Key skills and responsibilities: 
  • Lead and coordinate all mechanical commissioning activities across boilers, turbines, flue gas treatment, fuel handling, cooling systems, and balance-of-plant equipment.

  • Develop and manage the mechanical commissioning schedule, ensuring alignment with the overall EPCM commissioning and start-up plan.

  • Review, verify, and approve commissioning procedures, method statements, inspection test plans (ITPs), and vendor documentation.

  • Oversee mechanical system energisation, functional testing, flushing, pressure testing, rotation checks, and performance validation.

  • Direct and supervise commissioning technicians, subcontractors, and vendor representatives to ensure safe and efficient execution of all commissioning tasks.

  • Interface with construction, engineering, QA/QC, and operations teams to resolve mechanical issues, design clashes, and punch-list items prior to handover.

  • Ensure strict compliance with site safety procedures, permit systems, risk assessments, and commissioning readiness requirements.

  • Coordinate with DCS/automation teams to support system integration, loop checks, and completion of mechanical-to-control interfaces.

  • Manage commissioning documentation, including test records, commissioning logs, punch lists, and mechanical handover packages.

  • Support performance testing, reliability runs, and final acceptance activities to ensure the WtE plant meets contractual and environmental performance criteria.

Astute's Power Team are partnering with a Leading EPCM Contractor within the Energy Sector. We are currently recruiting for a Lead Electrical Commissioning Engineer to join their Waste to Energy project based near Glasgow.

The Lead Electrical Commissioning Engineer position comes with a day rate from £550.00 to £650.00 per day outside of IR35. Role responsibilities and key skills for the role:
  • Lead and coordinate all electrical commissioning activities across the project, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant execution.

  • Develop and implement commissioning plans, procedures, and schedules in alignment with the overall project commissioning strategy.

  • Supervise and oversee electrical pre-commissioning and commissioning works, including LV/MV/HV systems, MCCs, switchgear, transformers, UPS, and control systems.

  • Manage and coordinate interfaces between electrical systems and other process areas, including boiler, steam turbine, flue gas treatment (FGT), crane systems, and DNO connection.

  • Collaborate with the respective mechanical, process, and control leads to ensure integrated and sequential commissioning of all systems.

  • Ensure all commissioning documentation, ITPs, FAT/SAT reports, and test packs are properly prepared, executed, and signed off.

  • Lead troubleshooting, defect resolution, and energization activities for electrical systems and assist in plant handover to operations.

  • Review vendor and subcontractor commissioning documentation and ensure compliance with project and regulatory standards.

  • Support safety reviews, LOTO procedures, and energization permits in coordination with HSE and operations teams.
  • Provide regular progress reports and interface updates to the Commissioning Manager and Project Management Team.
  • Degree or HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.

  • Proven track record in electrical commissioning on large-scale EPC or EPCM energy or process projects (preferably Waste-to-Energy, CCGT, or Biomass).

  • Strong understanding of high-voltage systems, protection relays, and control systems integration.

  • Experience working with multi-discipline teams and managing contractor and vendor interfaces.

  • Familiarity with DNO interface and grid energization requirements.

  • Excellent knowledge of commissioning procedures, testing methodologies, and electrical safety standards.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and coordination skills.

Astute’s EPC Contract Power team is partnering with a leading End Client / Operator within the UK Power Industry to recruit a Civils Supervisor to oversee the full Civils scope of works for their new build Waste to Energy facility based in Cambridgeshire.

The Civils Supervisor comes with a day rate from £400.00 to £500.00 outside of IR35. Role responsibilities and key skills for the role:  
  • Act as the client’s on-site representative, overseeing the EPC contractor’s civil works delivery

  • Monitor contractor performance against programme, scope, and contractual requirements

  • Chair and attend regular site meetings with EPC construction management and discipline leads

  • Review and challenge method statements, risk assessments, and temporary works proposals

  • Ensure all civil works comply with approved designs, specifications, and statutory regulations

  • Monitor HSE performance, escalating non-conformances and ensuring corrective actions are implemented

  • Track progress, identify risks or delays, and provide clear reporting to the client project team

  • Witness inspections, testing, and handover of civil works, ensuring quality standards are met

  • Provide key stakeholders and the project delivery team progress updates on the civils scope of works.

The C&I Commissioning Technician role comes with a day rate from £400.00 to £450.00.

 

 

Key skills and responsibilities: 

 
  • Updating and maintaining maintenance records within the internal systems.
  • Requiring the minimum of supervision, you will be highly self-motivated, having a can-do attitude with an eye for identifying and recommending maintenance improvement opportunities
  • Actively contribute to the safe, efficient and cost-effective running of the OCGT plant.
  • Developing knowledge of Control Systems once set up.

Astute's Power Team are currently recruiting 2 Electrical Testers to join a Electrical Main Contractor on a new build Waste to Energy facility based in Irvine, Scotland on a 5 months contractor under the CIS scheme.

The Electrician positions come with an hourly rate of £24.00 per hour. Role responsibilities and key skills for the role:
  • Perform electrical testing and commissioning of LV and MV cabling systems associated with Balance of Plant (BoP) infrastructure.

  • Conduct insulation resistance testing (IR), continuity checks, polarity tests, and phase rotation verification on power and control cables.

  • Interpret single-line diagrams, wiring schematics, and cable schedules to verify correct installation.

  • Ensure all cable terminations, joints, and connections meet industry standards and project specifications.

  • Document test results clearly and accurately in line with QA/QC protocols.

  • Coordinate with installation teams, supervisors, and commissioning engineers to troubleshoot faults or non-conformities.

  • Verify correct cable routing, glanding, and tagging across BoP systems (e.g., transformers, switchgear, MCCs, and auxiliary equipment).

  • Follow lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) and site safety procedures at all times.

  • Use appropriate testing tools (megger, multimeter, phase testers, etc.) and ensure they are calibrated and in good condition.

  • Support pre-commissioning and energization activities under the direction of the electrical commissioning manager.

  • Participate in punch-list activities and resolution of deficiencies.

  • Maintain compliance with HSE regulations, electrical standards (e.g., IEC, BS7671), and site-specific quality procedures.
