Lead EC&I Engineer Hybrid & Woking Office 12 month contract About the role: Astute’s Power team is partnering with an up and coming company within the Power Generation industry to recruit an Lead EC&I Engineer on a 12 month contract for a new build power station FEED study stage. Roles and Responsibilities: 
  • Ensuring the contractors E,C & I engineering and design meets the client requirements;
  • Reviewing and commenting on contractor and licensor documents and resolving those comments;
  • Engaging with discipline counter party key stakeholders as required to proactively progress the design;
  • Co-ordinating with the FEED team to ensure a cohesive design solution;
  • Ensuring the FEED team is aware of E,C & I engineering issues arising with Kent and progressing their timely resolution;
  • Ensuring the client are aware of issues arising and co-ordinating the resolution;
  • Striving to achieve best value through the facilities design; and
  • Providing support to the team in securing all necessary consents, connections and permissions to build and operate the plant.

EC&I Manager Protos EFW, Ellesmere Port 12 month contract About the role: Astute’s Power team is partnering with the joint venture EPC to recruit an EC&I Manager on a 12 month contract for a new build Energy from Waste in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire. The scope of work includes the following:  
  • The Scope-of-Supply with SBG may be summarised as follows:
  • 2 stream boiler and grate incineration plant
  • 2 flue gas treatment plants incl. stack
  • Steel structure
  • Waste cranes
  • EC&I systems
  • Several equipment (ie. fans, tanks, vessels, boiler cleaning devices, etc.)
  • Heat and noise insulation- Refractory lining
  • Overall field of responsibility shall include:
  • Management of the delivery and installation of EC&I Installation packages;
  • Coordination with the Site and Project Management Team in terms of EC&I Installations;
  • Manage and control the flow of documents, information and project documents including SBG deliverables, technical queries, third party documents and client documents between the SBG Team and the related EC&I sub-contractor(s);
  • Coordination of all interfaces between all individual suppliers/ EC&I installation; companies involved in project site activities;
  • Responsible for ensuring that project team members always have accurate and up-to-date information about the EC&I scope;
  • Supervision and inspection of EC&I installation progress;
  • Assist the Site Management Team with all EC&I related Risk and Method
  • Statements (RAMS) in accordance with agreed process;
  • Compilation of turnover packages and SATs;
  • Assist in development of commissioning RAMS, procedures and ITP’s;

The Safety Advisor role comes with a competitive daily rate.

Key skills:
  • Provide client-side safety assurance by monitoring contractor compliance with Health & Safety, environmental and waste management legislation.
  • Review and monitor RAMS, permits to work and high-risk activities to ensure work is completed safely and in line with project requirements.
  • Carry out regular site inspections, audits and safety walks, promoting a positive safety culture and driving continuous improvement.
  • Support incident, near miss and good catch investigations, identifying trends and implementing corrective actions.
  • Liaise with project Health & Safety, Environmental and Asbestos teams, contractors and key stakeholders to ensure effective communication and compliance.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence safe behaviours across site.

  • Safely operate, isolate and maintain electrical systems up to 11kV.
  • Undertake switching operations in accordance with site electrical safety rules.

  • Lead the planning, design, and delivery of mechanical system - including low-carbon heating, heat distribution, water systems, CHP integration, and replacement of legacy steam/boiler infrastructure.
  • Develop technical specifications, scopes of work, and procurement packages, managing supplier selection, tender evaluations, and contract awards.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary design across mechanical, electrical, controls/BMS, civil, structural, and architectural teams to ensure integrated building performance.
  • Manage mechanical project budgets, schedules, and risks, including cost control, programme delivery, variation management, and mitigation of technical risks.

  • Lead and oversee the commissioning of the Energy Centre, District Heating Network, and Energy Transfer Stations (PHX Skids)
  • Review and assure all commissioning documentation
  • Monitor and witness commissioning activities on site
  • Coordinate and assess the commissioning of gas boilers, air source heat pumps, thermal storage, distribution pipework, pumps, heat exchangers, metering, control systems, and BMS integration to ensure performance meets project specifications.

Astute’s Power team is partnering with a large-scale European Engineering and Construction company to recruit a Permit to Work Coordinator on 12 months for its Scotland site. The Permit to Work Coordinator role comes with a rate of £500 per day.                   As the Permit to Work Coordinator, you will need experience in the following;
  • Act as the central point of contact for the Permit to Work system across the construction site.

  • Review, approve, issue, suspend, and close PTWs in accordance with project-specific procedures.

  • Coordinate with construction teams, subcontractors, and the HSE department to plan and manage conflicting work activities.

  • Maintain a live permit board and daily permit register.

  • Ensure all PTWs are fully documented, including risk assessments, method statements, isolations, and supporting documents.

  • Conduct audits and regular inspections to ensure compliance with permit conditions.

  • Facilitate daily PTW coordination meetings and ensure clear communication between work parties.

  • Support and advise supervisors and operatives on permit-related issues and safety requirements.

  • Escalate any non-compliance or unsafe practices to the HSE Manager immediately.

  • Deliver toolbox talks and training sessions on the PTW process as required.

  • Maintain accurate records for audit purposes and regulatory compliance.
