The Position of Lead Mechanical Engineer Reporting to the Engineering Manager (Projects) the Lead Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for:
  • Management of the Mechanical Engineering Department, ensuring the mechanical deliverables produced by the Projects Group are to the correct quality, standard and in compliance with procedures.
  • Mentoring and development of Mechanical Engineers within the department.
  • Preparation of Specifications and Scopes of Work, Preparation of programmes, Preparation and Presentation of proposals.
  • Attendance at project meetings.

To be successful in the role of Lead Mechanical Engineer you will:

  • Be educated to a degree level and preferably have achieved Chartered status with the IMechE.
  • Have worked in a design and engineering environment and have experience of pipe and valve specification, material selection and welding and fabrication.
  • Have experience in the petrochemicals, chemicals or renewable energy industries and knowledge of applicable industry regulations and standards including CDM, PER, PSSR, CE and UKCA marking is advantageous.

  • Oversee overhead crane operations including lift planning, exclusion zones, lifting activities and compliance with lifting regulations
  • Ensure all works are carried out in line with RAMS, permits to work, method statements and health & safety procedures

Working as their Nuclear Safety Case Specialist, you will be working as part of their core team to support in the development and management of their new 10 year nuclear safety case, operating until 2033.                     Roles & Responsibilities Working as the Nuclear Safety Case Specialist, you will be responsible for supporting with the development of their safety case for their licenced site in Dorset. This will include:  
  • Developing their Management of Change (MoC) Assessments, BAT Assessments, Radiological Dose Assessments, Site Wide Environmental Safety Case (SWESC) and Waste Management Plan (WMP).
  • Delivering SSHEQ objectives in line with both company and site requirements, promoting the best culture across the site and all stakeholders.
  • Maintaining their new operational safety case, ensuring full compliance and supporting with all technical documentation relating to this.
  • Lead all modifications to the safety case in line with new projects and programmes.
  •  Act as Lead Author and Design Authority for our EA Site Wide Environmental Safety Case (SWESC) and Waste Management Plan (WMP), ensuring compliance with the EA and the environmental permits.
  • Provide technical support to assure compliance with the licensing requirements of the Nuclear Site Licence, liaising effectively with nuclear regulators.
  • All other duties as required.
    Skills & Qualifications Candidates must have a background working within the Nuclear industry, supporting site safety case management and compliance requirements at a senior level. Candidates should have strong technical report writing skills, be able to deliver key SSHEQ objectives, nuclear regulatory submissions and have a good understanding of safety case development. Due to the nature of the role, practical experience on a nuclear site is beneficial and all candidates must be able to hold and maintain national security clearance.     Salary & Package

Astute's Power Team are currently recruiting for 3x C&I Commissioning Technician to join the EPC Contractor on a new build Waste to Energy facility based in Chester, Cheshire. The C&I Commissioning Technician come with a day rate of £450.00 per day outside of IR35. Role responsibilities and key skills for the role:
  • Carry out Control & Instrumentation (C&I) commissioning activities from late pre-commissioning through cold and hot commissioning phases on a large-scale Energy-from-Waste facility.
  • Perform loop checks, point-to-point testing, instrument calibration, and I/O verification prior to system energisation.
  • Assist with commissioning of DCS, PLC, SCADA, and field instrumentation systems across key plant areas including boiler island, turbine generator, flue gas treatment (FGT), and balance of plant.
  • Ideally have Valmet DCS experience on a power generation project.
  • Follow and implement commissioning procedures, method statements, and test documentation in line with OEM and EPC requirements.
  • Support functional testing during cold commissioning, verifying interlocks, alarms, permissives, and cause & effect functionality.
  • Participate in hot commissioning activities including first fire, steam blows, turbine rolling, and grid synchronisation from a C&I perspective.
  • Identify and assist in troubleshooting control system faults, signal issues, communication errors, and instrumentation performance during commissioning.
  • Work closely with mechanical, electrical, and process commissioning teams to support safe and coordinated system energisation.
  • Adhere to site safety standards, permit-to-work systems, and commissioning risk assessments during all testing phases.
  • Support performance testing, emissions monitoring validation, and completion of commissioning documentation for handover to operations.
