Mechanical Commissioning Technician
CONTRACT

Astute’s EPC Contract Power team is partnering with an EPC Contractor within the UK and Global Power Industry to recruit 2x Mechanical Commissioning Technicians on a 4 months initial contract for its Energy from Waste  facility based in Chester, Cheshire.

 

The Mechanical Technician roles comes with a day rate from £350.00 to £450.00.

 

 

Key skills and responsibilities: 

 
  • To assist in the planning and organising of the mechanical maintenance and repairs of plant and equipment in specific allocated areas of responsibility
  • Diagnose faults and carry out effective repairs whilst working on own initiative without supervision
  • To assist in surveys and inspections of plant and equipment and take corrective action as required by Company Procedures
  • Inspect and supervise all work carried out by contractors to ensure that the work meets the required standards
  • Ensure that repairs and planned maintenance are completed in a timely manner and carried out by skilled / qualified staff
  • Work closely with the Commissioning Engineers to commission the plant.
  • Report any reoccurring, serious and / or unusual defects to the engineering team and take corrective action in accordance with Company procedures
  • To ensure that plant and equipment are suitable and sufficient for activities to be compliant with legislation and licensing requirements
  • Carry out calibrations and verify a variety of measuring devices.
  • Ensure health and safety and security in own area of responsibility
  • Understand and manage risks and hazards associated with site and undertaking associated Risk Assessments
  • Implement work procedures and work instructions including site safety rules

Senior Project Engineer

Role: Project Engineer Headcount: 1 Digital/Non Digital: Non Digital Contracting Authority: NRS/Magnox Contract Length: 24 months Location: Dungeness, Kent – 4 day week. Full time on site. IR35: In Scope Pay Rate to Candidate: PAYE - £38.21/hour, UMB - £51.89/hour Minimum Requirement: To provide fit for purpose engineering solutions for projects or engineering support on more complex projects. To ensure that design authority standards and configuration control are applied appropriately. • Identify project functional requirements and stakeholder needs for assigned project. • Contribute to production of Project Execution Plan including design, safety case and commissioning strategies. • Support project optioneering process. • Develop concept design and fit for purpose engineering solution for projects • Produce and/or approve project technical specifications. • Manage detailed design activities in accordance with design authority standards. • Prepare modification proposals as required, acting as a Nominated Responsible Engineer where appointed. • Carry out technical assessment/approval of contractors work instructions/method statements/risk assessments. • Provide technical supervision of construction/deconstruction activities to ensure compliance with design intent. • Approve as built drawings. • Specify and provide technical supervision of commissioning and/or decommissioning. • Manage hand over to systems/operations ensuring that all drawings, instructions and training have been supplied as required. • Liaise and consult with system engineers and other stakeholders throughout project life cycle to ensure efficient and effective project delivery. • Maintain site configuration control throughout project lifecycle. Skills/Experience: • Experience in a practising disciplined Engineering role (Mechanical, Electrical, EC&I) on industrial plant. • Experience of nuclear and/or conventional project engineering • Understanding of relevant Company and/or national engineering standards. • Experience of working in highly regulated industry – nuclear preferred. • 18-24m of UK based experience. • Able to communicate well with clients, designers & SMEs. Astute’s EPC Contract Power team is partnering with a leading EPC Contractor within the UK Power Industry to recruit a Commissioning Manager on a 12 months contract for its Open Cycle Gas Turbine plant based in Hull.

 

The Commissioning Manager role comes with a day rate of £600.00. 

 

 

Key skills and responsibilities: 

 
  • Working in collaboration with the construction team, ensuring that commissioning activities are planned safely and to required quality standards and specifications
  • Set up the pre-commissioning documentation in line with milestones for the commissioning both Cold/Hot.
  • Providing appropriate support throughout the commissioning phase of the project
  • Updating of commissioning documentation including site reports and assisting with O&M manuals
  • Carrying out and recording of all commissioning tests
  • Liaising with onsite subcontractors where necessary
  • Reporting to the Commissioning Manager / Lead with any site progression etc.
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations and reporting any incidents appropriately.
  • Commissioning experience gained within CCGT, OCGT, or Energy from Waste. 
  • Qualification in discipline i.e., electrical, mechanical or Process (chemical) engineering.
  • Proven track record in a similar role and ability to communicate well at all levels.
