Senior Environmental Advisor

Location: Sellafield (Cumbria) Company: Hochtief (supporting the Infrastructure Delivery Partner โ€“ IDP Programme)

Role Overview

Hochtief is seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Advisor to support delivery of the Infrastructure Delivery Partner (IDP) programme at Sellafield. This role will be responsible for providing environmental leadership and technical expertise across a portfolio of major infrastructure and nuclear projects, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and driving best practice in environmental management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert environmental advice to project and delivery teams across all phases of work (design, construction, and commissioning)

  • Ensure compliance with environmental legislation, planning conditions, and site-specific requirements

  • Develop, implement, and maintain Environmental Management Plans (EMPs), risk assessments, and method statements

  • Identify environmental risks and opportunities, implementing mitigation and improvement strategies

  • Support and lead environmental audits, inspections, and assurance activities

  • Monitor environmental performance and produce reports for internal and external stakeholders

  • Liaise with regulators, clients, and key stakeholders on environmental matters

  • Promote a strong environmental culture and deliver training and awareness initiatives across the programme

  • Support sustainability objectives, including waste reduction, resource efficiency, and carbon management

  • Ensure alignment with ISO 14001 and Sellafield environmental standards

Key Requirements

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related discipline

  • Proven experience in a similar environmental advisory role within major infrastructure, construction, or nuclear sectors

  • Strong knowledge of UK environmental legislation and regulatory frameworks

  • Experience working within highly regulated environments (nuclear experience desirable)

  • Familiarity with ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems

  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills

  • Ability to influence and drive environmental performance across multidisciplinary teams

Desirable

  • Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., IEMA)

  • Experience working on large-scale, complex programmes or frameworks

  • Knowledge of sustainability and carbon reduction strategies
