  Responsibilities and duties of the Senior Structural Engineer role

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will:

  • Lead structural design activities and take ownership of engineering packages from concept through to delivery
  • Perform and check detailed hand calculations
  • Produce and review engineering drawings
  • Lead and mentor a small team (typically a technician and/or junior engineer)
  • Liaise directly with clients and key stakeholders
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant standards, regulations, and security requirements
  • Work independently on assigned project deliverables
Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

  • A strong  experience in structural engineering design
  • A high level of design experience with reinforced concrete and steel
  • Experience with timber and masonry (desirable)
  • Proficiency in hand calculations and engineering drawing production/review
  • Experience with in-situ and precast concrete (highly desirable for Bristol-based candidates)
  • Proven track record working independently in design-led roles
  • Experience leading teams or mentoring junior engineers
  • Chartered Engineer status (or working towards) is advantageous

  • Demonstrated ability to win work and manage profitable project delivery
  • Experience managing teams, client accounts and internal project finances
  • Strong commercial awareness, negotiation and leadership skills
