The role

As a Commercial Manager, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. This role offers an excellent opportunity to support business growth across our Nuclear Services and Civil Decommissioning business streams, through the provision of pre-contract commercial support.

 

Day-to-day, you’ll act as Commercial Lead on agreed bids (within the bid team). You'll cover a range of offerings from major projects to service and consultancy within civil nuclear industry, supplementing existing pre-contract capability within the business streams.

 

  • Provision of commercial and contractual support and advice across designated projects, working closely with bid teams.
  • Ensure the winning of good business – successful tenders which balance risk and reward.
  • Lead ensuring that any submissions are compliant with corporate governance procedures.
  • Negotiate customer contracts and work closely with Procurement to ensure flow down of key terms.
  • Derive commercial solutions to bid requirements such as commercial tender query responses, KPIs, pricing schedules.
  • Generate bids showing appropriate margin returns with credible delivery plans.
  • Agree arrangements with customers and partners, such as NDAs and MOUs, liaising closely with Legal and taking a leading role in establishing Joint Ventures where applicable
  • Support analysis of competitors, customers, and supply chain to ensure winning tenders

 

This position involves occasional travel/working across a range of internal and customer sites, as a requirement of the role.

 

This role is full time, thirty-seven hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with three days in our Warrington office and two days working from home. 

 

Essential experience of the Commercial Manager

  • Experience of working within highly regulated industries
  • Experience of NEC3/4 contracts, preferably the ECC (Engineering & Construction Contract)
  • Experience with Government customers / PCRs (Public Contract Regulations)
  • Customer facing experience (unable to consider anyone with subcontractor / supplier facing experience only)
  • Significant pre-contract experience, capable of autonomously leading bids from a commercial perspective
  • Sound understanding of contract terms and conditions / contract law, contract and commercial risk management, and estimating/financial aspects of bids

 

Qualifications for the Commercial Manager (Pre-Contract)

  • Quantity Surveying or Business related degree or equivalent qualifications

  • Produce Concept, Scheme and Detail Design 3D models and drawings, ensuring operation, maintenance, manufacture, construction and installation requirements are addressed.
  • Experience in engineering design development using appropriate CAD software.
  • Produce manufacturing and assembly drawings compliant to BS 8888 and other relevant codes and standards.

Graduate Engineering Geologist / Geo-Environmental Engineer

We now have a unique and exciting opportunity for an Engineering Geologist/ Geoenvironmental Engineer Graduate to join our growing Geotechnical Division covering primarily our South Wales based region, with a strong focus on ground investigation delivery. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with ground investigation projects typically across South Wales and occasionally South West area, as and when required. Responsibilities:  
  • Undertaking Phase 1 desk studies
  • Liaising with clients, engineering supervisors and subcontractors
  • Assist in setting up and organising ground investigation works
  • Have the ability to work independently where required and problem solve
  • Supervising intrusive investigation activities such as drilling, trial pitting and in-situ testing
  • Soil and rock logging, and laboratory scheduling
  • Processing & Interpretation of field and laboratory results
  • Factual ground investigation report writing progressing to interpretative report writing  
Requirements:  
  • BSc degree level qualified in geology/earth sciences or a related environmental subject essential
  • Previous UK ground investigation site experience is essential, and knowledge of the various techniques employed
  • MSc in a geotechnical/engineering geology discipline preferable, but not essential
  • Be able to log samples to BS 5930+A2 technical standards
  • A good knowledge of the principal soil and rock strata encountered in the UK
  • Knowledgeable in geotechnical studies including good understanding of basic soil mechanics
  • Familiar with and be able to interpret geological maps and published geological data
  • Ability to follow instruction, be self-motivated, exhibit a proactive approach with desire to learn, work well within a team environment and willing to be flexible to work nationally as required
  • Full UK driving licence essential
  • Valid CSCS Card (if not held, the Company will facilitate)

Key skills 

 

·        Specification and development of concept, scheme and detail designs, ensuring a compliant and safe design and achievement of quality standards.

·        Production of technical documentation and drawings to support the development and substantiation of engineering design solutions.

·        A professionally registered engineer, possessing a recognised Level 6 qualification (Bachelor’s Degree with Honours) in an engineering discipline relevant to the role, with significant experience in engineering design development and substantiation.
