Astute's Power Team are partnering with a Leading EPC Contractor within the Energy Sector. We are currently recruiting for a HV Electrical Commissioning Engineer to join their Open Cycle Gas Turbine project based in Stewartby, Bedfordshire. The HV Electrical Commissioning Engineer position comes with a day rate from £550.00 to £575.00 per day outside of IR35. Role responsibilities and key skills for the role:
  • Lead and coordinate all high-voltage (HV) commissioning activities associated with the 298MW OCGT plant, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient delivery in line with project milestones.
  • Execute detailed HV commissioning plans, switching schedules, and energisation procedures, aligned with the overall project commissioning strategy and grid connection programme.
  • Supervise and manage pre-commissioning and commissioning of HV systems, including GIS/AIS switchgear, power transformers, generator step-up (GSU) transformers, protection & control systems, and grid interface equipment.
  • Take ownership of grid compliance and interface activities with National Grid / DNO, ensuring adherence to G99 requirements and supporting all stages of grid energisation and synchronisation.
  • Coordinate commissioning interfaces across balance of plant (BoP) systems, including gas turbine auxiliaries, black start systems, UPS/DC systems, and control systems (DCS/SCADA).
  • Lead protection system testing and validation, including relay configuration checks, secondary injection, end-to-end testing, and fault response verification.
  • Manage and witness energisation activities, including HV switching operations, ensuring strict compliance with LOTO, permit-to-work, and safety rules.
  • Review and approve commissioning documentation, including ITPs, FAT/SAT reports, test packs, and redline drawings, ensuring full traceability and handover readiness.
  • Drive fault finding, root cause analysis, and defect resolution across HV systems during commissioning and initial operation phases.
  • Provide technical oversight of OEMs, subcontractors, and vendors, ensuring all HV works are executed in line with project specifications and UK regulatory standards.
  • Support plant synchronisation, load testing, and performance testing, leading through to successful handover to operations.
  • Deliver regular progress updates to the Commissioning Manager, highlighting risks, constraints, and interface challenges.

Astute's Power Team are currently recruiting for an Electrical Commissioning Technician to join the commissioning team for their OCGT plant based Lincolnshire.

The Electrical Commissioning Technician positions come with a day rate from £400.00 to £475.00 outside of IR35. Role responsibilities and key skills for the role:  
  • Hands-on commissioning of electrical components and systems such as, transformers, medium/low voltage switchgears, DC systems, rectifiers, inverters, motorized valves, instruments etc. Fully competent at using Primary & Secondary Injection test set equipment.
  • Assist the commissioning engineers in carrying out testing on electrical systems and equipment, as well as system optimization and troubleshooting and filling-in the respective commissioning documentation and protocols
  • Participation in the walk-downs for Turnover from construction to commissioning, identifying open items that prevent system start-up.
  • Preparation of the site for the electrical team to plan ahead for site works.
  • Report to the Lead Electrical Commissioning Engineer for this project.
  • At least 7 years working experience in power stations Electrical (MV/LV and I&C) Commissioning activities with demonstrable experience in a leading role in projects of similar relevance as an Electrical Technician.
  • Strong team spirit, working with an international team and other cultures.
  • Excellent communication skills

Astute’s EPC Contract Power team is partnering with a leading EPC Contractor to recruit an Administrator to join their fast paced team on a 3 months initial contract basis for their OCGT power plant in Stewartby, Bedfordshire.

The Administrator comes with a day rate from £150.00 to £160.00 per day. Role responsibilities and key skills for the role:  
  • Manage, upload, review, and maintain project documentation using the ProjectWise platform, ensuring documents are accurately stored and easily retrievable

  • Support the administration and ongoing maintenance of Health & Safety (H&S) files, ensuring compliance with internal procedures and industry standards

  • Control document versioning, naming conventions, and approval workflows to maintain document integrity

  • Liaise with project teams, engineers, and contractors to collect, distribute, and track required documentation

  • Ensure H&S documentation (RAMS, permits, certificates, training records, etc.) is complete, up to date, and correctly filed

  • Monitor document registers and provide regular status updates and reports to the project team

  • Carry out quality checks on documents to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance prior to submission

  • Assist with audits and internal reviews by preparing and collating required documentation

  • Maintain confidentiality and data security across all project and H&S information

  • Provide general administrative support to the project team as required during the contract period

Astute's Power Team are currently recruiting for 2x Mechanical Commissioning Technicians to join the EPC Contractor on a new build Waste to Energy facility based in Cheshire through all stages of Commissioning to handover.

The Mechanical Commissioning Technician roles come with a day rate from £400.00 to £450.00 (Outside IR35). Role responsibilities and key skills for the role:
  • Support the mechanical commissioning of plant systems including boilers, turbines, pumps, valves, and associated balance of plant equipment
  • Carry out pre-commissioning activities such as flushing, pressure testing, leak checks, and mechanical completion inspections
  • Execute commissioning test procedures in line with method statements, risk assessments, and OEM guidelines
  • Assist in the inspection, alignment, and functional testing of rotating equipment (e.g. pumps, fans, conveyors)
  • Identify and report mechanical defects, non-conformances, and punch list items, ensuring timely resolution
  • Work closely with commissioning engineers and other disciplines to ensure systems are handed over safely and efficiently
