Astute’s Nuclear team is partnering with a leading company working within the Nuclear Engineer sector, currently require a Senior EC&I Engineer to join their design team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working in the EC&I discipline at a senior level and hold active security clearance.  Â
The position sits outside IR35, paying around £50-£60 per hour and will start with a 3-month contract. Suitable candidates are able to work from home with the occasional visit to their Aldermaston site.

Responsibilities and duties
As a Senior EC&I Engineer you will work in a hands-on design-based position to deliver and design engineering solutions. This will involve:

Hands-on delivery of design and engineering solutions.

Lead on design, specification, procurement, installation, acceptance testing, commissioning, and operator training.

Check and approve engineering documents and drawings.
-
Liaise with clients and multi-discipline managers to deliver cost-effective solutions.

Provide technical consultancy and guidance across the UK EC&I design team.
-
Manage project quality, progress, cost control, and supporting documentation.

Drive and maintain compliance with safety culture and regulations (e.g. CDM, CE marking).

Actively participate in design and safety reviews (HAZOP, risk assessments).

Professional qualifications
We are looking for someone with the following:
Essential:
-
Degree-qualified in a relevant technical/engineering discipline (or demonstrable experience).
-
Minimum 5 years’ experience within the nuclear industry.
-
Proven competence in design/delivery within a project-based environment.
-
Full UK driver’s licence.
-
Working towards Chartered Engineer status.
-
Understanding of design requirements supporting nuclear safety cases.
-
Experience leading technical teams and managing sub-contractors.
Significant expertise in at least two of the following:

Mechanical Handling (including Remote in-cell handling)
-
Process Instrumentation
-
Functional Safety (BS EN 61508/61511)
-
Machinery Safety (BS EN 60204, BS EN 13849
-
LV Distribution Systems (Trimble Pro-design)
Desirable:
-
Chartered Engineer (or nearing chartership), with membership to a relevant institution (e.g. IET).

Knowledge of EC&I integration with control systems (PLC/SCADA).

Experience in Design Substantiation to support safety cases.

Additional Defence sector experience.

Involvement in bid preparation.
